PRESERVING
THE EARTH BY CARING FOR WATER, AIR AND LAND...
Our April focus has been a month long study on the environment. In their integrated units, first grade students have learned the tools and techniques of gardening. Second graders are building upon this knowledge as well as learning about composting soil from our naturalist friends from the Madden Nature Center. Second graders are also learning about the Hudson River and taking trips to our Ossining Waterfront to explore it firsthand.
Students are also reading and writing about conserving the Earth's resources.
Interestingly, second grade students even applied their math learning by creating arrays of Devil's Teeth along the shore of the river to demonstrate their understanding
of multiplication. Students also engaged in 21st Century Learning by creating, collaborating and communicating on solutions to real world
problems. In the picture above, students from Prahbu's
class engineered a tunnel to feed a spring of water into the river. Well done!
Next week, we will culminate our focus on caring for the Earth by planting a tree in honor of Arbor Day....
Have a wonderful week!
