Stand or kneel? Fr. David explains . . .
As Episcopalians, we embrace a myriad of traditions. For many, kneeling during the Eucharistic Prayer and to receive Holy Communion is the common practice. During festive seasons like Christmas and E
aster, it is also
customary to stand in celebration of the festive nature of the Christian experience. The beauty of our service traditions is that, whether we stand or kneel, or sit, any posture is acceptable and honored in worship. So, with this in mind, I encourage all of us to feel comfortable choosing what posture you desire in your worship experience. For me, standing during Christmas and Easter seasons gives a sense of joyful celebration. These are also the usual times when the confession is omitted from the service as these seasons are joyful in focus and less penitential. I want all to feel comfortable worshiping in the style that is most meaningful for each person, and that is why, it is important for us to honor the variety in our practices. In the near future we will celebrate an "instructional" service that helps to explain our customary traditions in hopes that we all better understand why we do what when we do it.

First Sunday of the month designated as "Family" Sunday
Celebra
tion of the first Sunday each month will allow us as a parish to honor our families together in worship.
With the tradition of remembering anniversaries and birthdays, as well as enjoying a wonderful breakfast, this first Sunday of the month brings us all together in worship and fellowship. It also gives our Rector the opportunity to share a youth homily and promote more participation of our youth in the worship service.
There will be no Sunday school sessions on the first Sunday, which will also allow our Sunday school teachers and aides to also worship with families and be part of the parish worship celebration. Nursery will still be available.
So, please plan to meet as a family in church on May 1st as we worship all together!
