Diabetes and Kidney Health
Do you or someone you know have diabetes? Signs of early kidney damage can develop in as many as 50% or more of people with diabetes. If left untreated, this could lead to more damage or kidney failure. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure in Canada, listed as the cause for 36% of new cases of end-stage kidney disease.
The Kidney Foundation of Canada and the Ontario Renal Network are asking Ontarians with kidney disease to share their experiences with peer support. A survey has been developed to help us improve the support available to you and others affected by kidney disease.
If you are a person living with kidney disease, a caregiver, a kidney donor or recipient, we'd like to hear from you, whether or not you have received peer support in the past. Your input is important!
The Kidney Foundation of Canada Kingston Chapter needs volunteers to staff Saturday and Sunday bingos in Kingston. Shifts are two hours. Volunteers must be able to stand for 1-2 hours and are responsible for maintaining the hall in an orderly manner and connecting with patrons. All funds raised from these events support Kingston and area kidney disease patients and their families. For more information please contact Bruce Hill at 800-724-9953 ext 4560 or

Over 300 healthcare professionals and people whose lives had been impacted by a kidney transplant came together last October for the Kidney Foundation Transplant Celebration. The late Dr. Jerry Posen, an Ottawa nephrologist, was honoured as was Dr. John Dossetor who coordinated the first transplant in the Commonwealth in 1958. Many memorable stories were shared by participants. In addition to the $42,000 raised from the event a generous gift of $25,000 was received from a group on nephrologists. Thanks goes out to sponsors, Trillium Gift of Life Network (beadonor.ca) and the Betram Loeb Organ-Tissue Donation Institute.
