Tomorrow is Earth Day, and the weather lately has made for quite the celebration of Spring! Heidi Klecker's 5th graders are heading outside tomorrow to help "beautify" a couple of local sites. Students in Jeff Lindeman's Horticulture class got a jump start on some landscaping at the high school, and check out the article on the greenhouse.  Any given night at the high school fields one can find softball, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, or track - sometimes all of the above, so stop by and root on the Wildcats!

Former Wildcat Ben Stanghelle Visits 4th Grade to Talk Science
Ben Stanghelle (class of 2010) stopped by Lisa Lizotte's 4th grade classroom recently to talk to kids about science - particularly the science surrounding the human brain.  Ben is a medical student at UMD and part of his ongoing education involves meeting with students to get and keep them interested in science. Looks like things went well...
Ben covered some hands-on lessons with the kids about the brain, including looking at how pupils dilate when encountering a bright light.  He also demonstrated the way the brain learns and concluded his presentation to the class by showing examples of a mouse brain and a human brain that had been donated. Check out additional pictures here.
CLHS Greenhouse to open Saturday (4/30) from 8:00 to 2:00

Students have been hard at work getting the greenhouse up and running this year - and it's about to pay off! The CLHS Greenhouse will officially open on Saturday, April 30th, at 8:00 a.m. From that point on, it will be open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. If you want to stop by during the week, hours are 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. during May and early June. Hours will be extended on May 5th during parent-teacher conferences at the high school, so be sure to stop by. Gift certificates are also available and make wonderful Mother's Day gifts...

Three dates in May (16, 19, 24) are scheduled potting nights. You can bring in your own pots, or pots will be available for sale. Potting soil will be available at wholesale cost, and students will be on hand to help plant.  There will even be some special pricing on plants those nights. Potting nights are from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. You can register through Community Ed. or just come by.

CL Softball Players are taking advantage of new "Box Lunch" service
Instead of running uptown, or stopping for fast food - student athletes now have another option - and the girls softball players look pretty happy about it.

The Chisago Lakes Schools Food and Nutrition Department has started a service through which parents can purchase meals for their athletes for away games. Each meal is priced at $3.50 and all meals are ordered in advance. Choices for meals include a 6 inch sub sandwich with turkey, ham, and cheese; a peanut butter and jelly sandwich; or a turkey wrap.  The box lunch also includes chips, baby carrots, apple slices, a cookie, water, and chocolate milk. After the teams sign up, the coaches pick up a cooler on game day and off they go! Student athletes get a well-balanced nutritious meal that helps prepare them for competition - go Wildcats! So far, baseball and softball are participating, with the hope  that  the program will expand, offering this service to all Chisago Lakes athletes all year round.
