CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON TURF FIELDS AT
PHILLIPS 66 SOCCER PARK

The construction of the two artificial turf fields with lighting and scoreboard at Phillips 66 Soccer Park began Tuesday April 19 th!  The two fields installed will be of the newest artificial turf surface from FieldTurf with the Revolution Series turf.  This is the same turf that was just installed at Century Link Stadium this past February.  The project contractor, FieldTurf Northwest, has provided a construction timeline with estimated completion date of June 23 rd .

Below is a picture of the construction area that will be fenced off during the construction phase and providing for  construction staging, which will temporarily take up parking near the northwest corner of the facility.
This project has been made possible as Whatcom Sports & Recreation, who has developed and operated the soccer park for the past 30 years, received $2 Million in funding allocated to the soccer park in the 2015-17 Washington State budget combined with a $700,000 donation from Phillips 66 and working with Whatcom County Parks for a 20 year lease extension to Whatcom Sports & Recreation allowing for the construction of the two artificial turf fields, with lights and scoreboard.

PARENT AND COACH COMMUNICATION
COLLABORATION

Conversations are constantly happening between  the coach  and the player about the demands of  the game , technical adjustments, tactical teaching and more. The majority of conversations do not and should not involve parents. However, when the conversations are about the player's development, the coach's expectations, or stressful situations such as playing time or positional choices - involving a parent in the discussion will make the discussion most effective  (unless the parent is being a Crazy Soccer Parent)

This was a great message from England's Grassroots Football!  A great perspective to have when we all go out to our child's games on Saturdays.

MESSAGE FROM A 14 YEAR OLD REFEREE. I'M JUST A SCHOOL CHILD AS WELL...
W ould you treat me like this if I refereed wearing my school uniform instead of a referee uniform??

Grassroots has given me the platform to speak anonymously so please listen to what I have to say.

To "THAT" coach who questioned every single decision

I made until I doubted my own decisions.

To "THAT" dad who told his child "it's pointless son, he's not going to give you anything"

To "THAT" spectator who is always  1 yard on the pitch despite repeatedly being told "Please can you get off the pitch"

To "THAT" parent who won't move so the kids can take a throw in or a corner.

To "THAT" coach who does nothing when others abuse me.

To "THAT" parent who does nothing when others abuse me.

To"THAT" spectator who does nothing when others abuse me.

Please remember that I am learning how to be a referee,
please remember that I am a school child also but most importantly
please remember without a referee you have no game. Please accept that there will be decisions I get wrong, some of these decisions might even be against you, but don't over analyse these decisions and think it's a huge conspiracy I have against your team or club,
I don't even know you.

Please don't judge me like a premier league referee who has had years of experience, 2 professional linesman, a fourth official, goal line technology and cameras covering the whole pitch....and still gets decisions wrong!!!!
I love this game and I want your son or daughter to love this game.
Respect for all Referees everywhere.

The  Rangers 2015/16 season is drawing to a close. Once again our players provided us with some great games filled with excitement and quality soccer
Each Spring sees our club host "Rangers Night" This evening of club celebration, is held in order for us to honor the fantastic achievements of our players. Most notably, our senior graduating class. Our U18 boys had an exceptional season, finishing second in the State. However, what we are truly proud of, is that our players are heading off to post-secondary institutions to continue their education and in some cases play soccer at their respective universities.

Next month sees our club host its first Golf Tournament at the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club. This fundraiser, is another opportunity for our club to come together. This great day out, truly exemplifies the values our club are trying to promote; Community. It goes without saying that without great volunteers, parents, coaches and a progressive minded board, this event simply is not possible.

Last month the club conducted a "free" skills clinic for 2006 aged born players. This clinic was open to all Rec players within the Whatcom community. To ensure a quality experience, the clinic was limited to only sixty players. The was to ensure the coach-to-player ration was in line with our development philosophy. Our other goal was to bring players from different clubs in the community together in order for them to learn new skills from licensed coaches, while making new friends. We plan on working with the Whatcom County Youth Soccer Association again in the future to host more.

The 2016/17 soccer season will see some new changes to the soccer landscape. We are embracing change, and looking forward to another great season of soccer.

Keep the ball rolling....

Sincerely,

Hubert Busby Jr,
Technical Director

Washington Youth Soccer's
50th Anniversary!

Washington Youth Soccer is celebrating its 50-year anniversary in 2016! Formed by a few passionate volunteers working out of their garage in 1966, Washington Youth Soccer has grown to one of the largest Soccer State Associations in the US. It has taken a passionate and dedicated TEAM to bring organized soccer to every corner of Washington.

We are honored to celebrate every youth player, coach, referee, family, staff member and volunteer across the state that have been a part of the past 50 years of Washington Youth Soccer.

The WYS Team will be on site Saturday May 7 at the Northwest Soccer Park during our Saturday recreational games to celebrate the 50 years of soccer in Washington!
