Beacon Prison Action Vigil and Rally-- This Weekend
I invite everyone to join me in our local community this weekend, as we lift our voices for prison reform. A rally will be held on Saturday, April 23rd, from 2-4 PM, including speakers, songs, letter writing, a mock solitary confinement cell, and more.  On Sunday, April 24th, I will be representing Unitarian Universalism in a multi-faith service from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Events take place in Memorial Park in Beacon (western end near Mattea wan Rd and the middle school).  All voices are needed to confront the problems related to race, mental health, solitary confinement, and inhumane treatment of individuals in our prison system. This event falls on the one year anniversary of the death of Sam Harrell, an inmate who was killed at the Fishkill Prison in Beacon, NY by as many as 20 corrections officers.  To mark the anniversary of Sam's death, 10 members of his family plus friends, supporters, and prominent voices in prison reform, are launching a 5 day fast/hunger strike.  The Vigil and Rally in Beacon are part of this event.  To learn more about the background, history, and schedule of events, please visit: www.beaconprisonaction.org/beacon
