Participants at our last ECHO Workshop
Mental Health First Aid Training

On February 20th, 2016, AAHI hosted a Mental Health First Aid training for community leaders, including AAHI staff and AAHI Steering Committee members.

Mental Health First Aid is a national curriculum-based certification training designed to equip participants with skills to recognize mental illness and to assist those who may be in crisis. The training facilitators were provided by the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County. In total, there were 26 attendees representing 10 organizations who became certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Attendees eagerly participated during discussions and were motivated to educate others in their community on information they learned. Participants were subsequently asked to educate other community members on mental health. Photonovels in various languages were distributed to guide these conversations. Following the success of the training, AAHI hopes to further expand the Mental Health First Aid training in the community.

Thank you community leaders, Steering Committee members, Patient Navigators, and the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County for your participation!

In order for us to better serve the needs of the Asian American community, we are fortunate to have Health Promoters who are dedicated to assisting with our outreach activities -- providing language assistance, conducting health screenings, and promoting the overall health of their respective communities.
