Broward Health spilled into a Broward County courtroom Friday as the tax-assisted public health system's chairman,

This is just another in a string of
negative headlines for the flagship health system. In the ongoing saga, the organization is facing

Physician Should Be Driving Value Based Solutions
|
WH
Andis Robeznieks, reporting for
Medical Economics on
4.8.16, describes the presentation
Harold Miller, President and CEO of the
Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform in Pittsburgh, who spoke at the
American College of Cardiology's 65th annual
Scientific Session and Expo in Chicago on
April 4.
According to the article's author, Mr. Miller believes:
One group is directly responsible for physician pay lagging behind inflation and for medical practices being micromanaged by payers and government regulators: physicians themselves.
WIM
The solution, according to Mr. Miller requires physicians to take the lead. Ultimately, most payment models are designed by payers for the benefit of payers, Miller said. But what is needed is a physician-designed system that identifies and removes barriers to better care, provides doctors with the resources and flexibility to provide that care and then holds them accountable for doing so.

You can't compare health care to the airline industry. Here's why.
|
WH
Suneel Dhand, MD, writing for
KevinMD on
4.4.16:
There's been a lot of talk for quite some time in health care quality improvement circles about why health care can't be as safe as airline travel. Some of the reasons behind asking this question are very valid, as there are many things health care can learn from the aviation industry.
WIM
According to the author:
...to say that safety in medicine should follow in the path of flying airplanes, grossly oversimplifies a complex problem. It's highly doubtful that aviation holds all, or even most, of the answers as we strive to make hospitals safer.
