April Rotary Students of the Month
The Hartford Rotary is pleased to announce the senior Students of the Month for April are Connor Koch , Brianna Weiss and Hannah Wheaton. This honor is based on academics, character, leadership, co-curricular, and volunteer work. Congratulations to these students for their outstanding accomplishments!




French  Students in France!
French students traveled to France over break to experience the trip of a lifetime! Students stayed with host families, attended French School and experienced the sights and sounds of Paris. Click here to see the video.


Culinary Students at Food Show
A number of Culinary students had the wonderful opportunity this week to prepare and serve food to guests at the Dierk's Waukesha Food Show at the Wisconsin State Fair Grounds.  Each student worked individually with their own chef and then were responsible to share product information to the people attending the event.  


Day 2 at the Dierk's Waukesha Food Expo with different Culinary students provided some additional experiences, including meeting and speaking with various professionals, and learning more about the industry!

HUHS Band Florida Trip!
The HUHS bands and orchestra traveled to Florida during Spring Break.  A total of 84 students attended the trip, as well as 9 chaperones and Band Director, Mr. Hacker and Choral Director, Mrs. Schuhmacher.  While in Florida, the band marched in a parade at Epcot and the orchestra performed a concert.  Both performances were heard by people from all across the United States and around the world.  Many compliments were received from park visitors who enjoyed the wonderful performances put on by our talented students.  When not performing, everyone visited the four Disney theme parks, the Orlando eye and Sea Life Aquarium, and Universal Studios.  Most of the students said that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios was their favorite part of the trip!  


Congratulations WSMA State Honors Music Students!
Each year, more than 1,600 auditions occur for the 428 spots in the High School Honors State Music Project.  Congratulations to the following music students who were selected by audition to be in the WSMA State Honors instrumental and choral ensembles: Brendan Anderson - Band, Robby Capps - Mixed Choir, Josie DeRosa - Treble Choir, Madeline Hoxworth 1st alternate - Treble Choir,  Ella Justman - Orchestra, Ethan Nieskes - Mixed Choir, Sadie Stelter - Treble Choir, and Andrew Stowe - Band.

Graduation tickets for the ceremony will be available at the Receptionist desk (During resource, before and/or after school).  Graduates must present an ID before tickets can be issued.  Each graduate will receive (7) seven tickets for the graduation ceremony and the graduate does not required a ticket for the ceremony.

Represent Your College Day
May 1st is known as National College Decision Day, as it is often the deadline for students to make deposits to attend the college of their choice.  In recognition of the National Day of deciding education choices after high school, we are asking Seniors to take part in "represent your college day" on Friday April 29th.  So if you don't have something already, get yourself some college wear to represent your choice and wear it on the 29th.                                                               
UWWC Festival of Arts
Looking for something to do on Saturday April 9?  HUHS will have a display of student artwork in the UWWC Festival of Arts. 
Besides art from 26 schools the festival will also feature an arts & crafts sale, farmers market, seminars, kids art-make and take, silent auction, wine and beer tasting, food and fun.

Have you ordered a 2016 yearbook?
An HUHS 2016 yearbook can be ordered an paid for at anytime throughout the year through our eFunds website by clicking here. Students can also drop off a check ($65) in an envelope in the Business Office.  A yearbook is a great way for students to remember their high school memories!

LiFE OF HOPE
Next Thursday, April 14th, the West Bend Chamber of Commerce will recognize LiFE OF HOPE in our new office by hosting a ribbon cutting in our honor. Because you have been a valued member of helping us develop and spread our mission/message of HOPE for suicide prevention, it would mean so much to us to have you here to join in this event.

Kevin will represent the LiFE OF HOPE Pillar of Influence of EDUCATION as he shares a message of living mental wellness in the wake of his Golden Gate Bridge jump as a survived attempt survivor. He is one of only thirty-four to survive jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. Today, Hines is one of the most respected and admired voices on the topic of suicide prevention and surviving an attempt, sharing a personal reflection of his own lived experience. His story is a remarkable testament to the strength of the human spirit when we seek the truth beyond the stigmas associated with the many aspects of suicide. Public Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Library invite you to their annual Book Sale  April 14th , 15th and 16th.  All proceeds from the sale go back to the community. Monies are used for: materials to tutor adults, supporting summer programs for children, monthly speakers for people of all ages. Also, all children who attend the sale receive a free book!  Click   here  for more information.
News from the Counseling Department
ACT Testing

All students considering a two or four-year college experience are reminded to take the ACT test during their junior year.    As you know, HUHS gave the ACT to all Juniors in March as part of the state-mandated testing program.    Juniors can take the ACT as often as they would like.   To register for the last ACT test for the 2015-16 school year, visit www.actstudent.org.   When registering, students will need the HUHS school code, which is 500-850.

Senior Scholarship Evening

Hartford Union High School will be hosting a Senior Scholarship Evening to recognize all seniors receiving scholarships and those providing the scholarships.   This event will be held on Sunday, May 15 at 5:00pm in Drama Lecture.   We hope all seniors receiving scholarships and their parents will attend the Senior Scholarship Evening for recognition and to meet scholarship donors.  Senior students should watch their email and the school website for more detailed information.   Stop in the Student Services Office if you have any questions. 
Educational Spotlight - Certified Public Accountant

Wisconsin Precollege Programs

Wisconsin precollege programs cover a wide array of subjects, from computer to basketball camps, music and art to cheerleading and study skills.  They are offered for varying age groups from pre-kindergarten through high school.  Many of the academic programs offer scholarship assistance.

Girls Track Takes 2nd Place at Conference Meet
Hartford took 2nd in the Wisconsin Little Ten Indoor Conference meet.   The area had 12 conference  champions - boys and girls.
For Hartford, the conference champions were Ashley Melvin (400-meter dash and high jump); Sam Noennig (shot put); Leah Flanagan (pole vault); Jack Johnson (pole vault); the 1,600 girls relay of Cora Meinberg, Alyx Evans, Rachel Zuern and Melvin.  Click here   to read the full article in the West Bend Daily News.

Varsity Baseball Team - Youth Baseball Camp
Below you will find pictures from this past weekend's youth baseball camp. The Varsity baseball team helped run the camp which consisted of 59 youth from 2nd-8th grade. The youth were able to work on infield and outfield drills, along with going through hitting stations. Each camper received a team poster and earned some valuable one-on-one time with coaching staff and players.
