  GREETINGS

Each month we are excited to gather details about forthcoming exhibitions, events, fairs and biennales to share with you.  But it can be a difficult choice, selecting which ones to include and which to leave to our social media pages, as we are pleased to see Middle Eastern artists feature in so many different areas of the art world. We hope you enjoy our selection.

On a note of sadness, we mourn the loss of two great artists from the region, Leila Alaoui and Maliheh Afnan. The first with so much to look forward to and the second with a such wonderful career and leaving behind a remarkable creative output.

Also this month, we feature the work of the Russian duo Igor & Marina. Inspired by Renaissance artists, they invite us to enter their imaginative, playful world.

Lastly we are delighted to announce that we now represent two new Iranian artists, Mahmood Sabzi and Armin Amirian and are looking forward to working with them.

With all best wishes from the Team

ARTIST OF THE MONTH: FOCUSING ON IGOR & MARINA
About Igor _ Marina
"We are artists, which is an excellent thing.  We are married, also an excellent thing.  We work together-not necessarily an excellent thing.  What do we mean by this?  Clearly, it isn't that we don't find inspiration in each other's work or ideas..."

Igor & Marina, Rebus (detail), 2014, Oil on canvas, 129.5 x 172.7 cm
In your biography found on the JRA website, you state that working together causes conflict. Do you find that this sense of conflict helps or hinders the creative process?
"The two of us have absolutely different characters! Over the years, we have learned how to compliment each other's work.  Sometimes, a good argument helps us find the best solutions and select the best ideas..."

Testimonials
"...Characterized by a remarkable fusion of seemingly discordant elements: past present, figurative and abstract, traditional and vanguard, their work together features Renaissance-era figures floating over backgrounds of cryptic text..." Read full testimonials
