Deciding Where to Go & Other Admission News
|
Congratulations! By now you should have heard from all your colleges and universities regarding admission decisions, if you have not, make sure to call or check your student portal as soon as possible.
Remember that you have until May 1 to decide which college or university you will attend for Fall 2016.
Orientation sessions, housing applications and other campus events/services generally have separate application registration deadlines. Please follow the directions provided in your printed and/or electronic admission packets.
We understand that many of your might be disappointed if you did not get into your preferred college/university. Nonetheless, you should consider your current alternatives to go onto college. Remember, there is no such thing as rejection, just redirection.
It is exciting to know that you will all go to college. Enjoy the rest of your senior year, there are only two months left until graduation--stay focused, your second semester grades still count!

Cal Grant Information
|
After you complete your FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application you need to create an account with
webgrants4students.org in order to check your Cal Grant Award.
Once your account is created, you will be able to see your Cal Grant Award details and manage your award accordingly.
In order to view your award you need too:
- Complete the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application
- Your Counselor needs to verify your GPA
- Make sure your counselor has all the information needed in order to verify your GPA.
- Check with your counselor to see whether or not you will need to fill out the Cal Grant paper form.

CSU Placement Test
|
The CSU requires you to take the English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry-Level Mathematics Test
(ELM) before you enroll. Your scores will determine which Math and English courses you should take to
begin your career at CSU. These tests are not an admission requirement. However, they are a
requirement for enrollment.
If you are not exempt from taking the EPT or the ELM, make sure to register for a test no later than
May 1.

Tips for Smart Housing: Cutting Cost
|
It is strongly recommended for students to live on campus during their first year in college. However, besides tuition, housing will be the highest expense in your cost of attendance. Here are some helpful tips to help you reduce your room and board expenses:
- Apply to housing by the deadline: Submitting your housing application by the stated deadline increases your chances of getting your desired preference in housing and avoiding late fees
- Choose a triple residential hall as your first option for housing: A private room with a private bathroom is more expensive than a shared room with a community bathroom.
- Choose a reasonable meal plan: think about your meals and do not over budget them
- Buy things that you will need for your dorm earlier: Thick blankets, sheets, pillows hangers, shampoo, etc., are things that you will need when you move out of your house into the dorms. You want to start buying start buying those things now as opposed to later in the summer when everyone is buying them. They are cheaper now.

Your Financial Aid Award letter will be a combination of grants, work-study and loans.
