City Seeks Input on Aquatic Master Plan
Residents will view improvement plans to pools

City of Wichita and Park & Recreation officials are seeking public feedback regarding the Aquatics Master Plan during a community meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Edgemoor Recreation Center, 5815 E. 9th.

Residents are encouraged to weigh in on improvements related to neighborhood pools and expanded operating hours. Officials will share improvement plans for 10 neighborhood pools. A Community Improvement Project (CIP) for 18 million dollars was approved by City Council in 2015 to improve aquatic facilities; funds will be initiated beginning in 2019 and finishing in 2023.

The Aquatics Master Plan was formulated in 2012 and spearheaded by an Aquatics Steering Committee, made up of community volunteers and a representative from the Board of Park Commissioners. The plan was updated in early 2016 to reflect information from public surveys conducted in 2012 to 2016, asking the public for their feedback on infrastructure of facilities, hours of operation, aquatic programming, swimming lessons and open swim.

For more information, please contact the Wichita Park & Recreation office at (316) 268-4361.
