During the first weekend in April, Bishop Jamison J. Hardy made a whirlwind visit to the "windy city". He visited three English District congregations: Trinity, New Lenox; Bethesda, Chicago; and Bethany, Chicago. In addition, he was honored to be the guest preacher at Concordia University on Monday, April 4, 2016.

The Hales Corners Lutheran Middle School celebrated with one of their dear teachers, Mrs. Jana Horn, as she was chosen as a recipient of the Kohl Fellowship Award. We thank and praise God for the talents that she shares with our students, families, and faculty. To God be the glory!
Seventh-grade students from Hales Corners Lutheran School in Hales Corners, WI, represented the school in the Regional History Bee in Chicago. One student, Mason, made it to Nationals, which will take place in early summer. Great job, students, and good luck to Mason as he moves forward!

Students at Abounding Love Preschool in Lee's Summit, MO, are learning the alphabet, and found out just how exciting the letter "U" really is when Pastor Chris visited the classroom, bringing his ukulele.

Feeding body and soul
Each month, volunteers from Fairlawn Lutheran Church in Fairlawn, OH, prepare and serve lunch to children in need at OPEN M. The mission is "to build bridges out of poverty by fostering health, wellness and nutrition for the body; education for the mind; and hope, joy and spiritual growth for the soul."

Almighty and most merciful God and Father, through Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, You have established Your Church to be a temple and dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. We give thanks that You continue to provide shepherds to feed and serve Your flock in which the Holy Spirit has made them overseers. We humbly implore You ever to strengthen the labors of Your ministers, that through their ministry of Word and Sacrament Your people may increase in Your knowledge and service and grow up into Him who is the head, even Jesus Christ, to whom, with You and the Holy Spirit, be all glory now and forever. Amen.

Alleluia, Christ is Risen!
Even on this side of the world, that proclamation still brings joy.
You should have seen the kids' faces light up when we could finally say "Alleluia" again, when they realized they could say that special word we've been refusing to use all through Lent.
It was another story all around us: Holy Week and Easter come and go, and our neighbors don't know any different. What a reminder for us... of why we're over here in the first place, and of why we can continue serving here without fear: Christ is risen! We are forgiven! He has conquered sin, death, and the devil. Now we just get to fulfill our callings in joyful gratitude.

PROTECTING YOUR CHURCH'S DATA FROM HACKERS
|
|
It's a computer nightmare scenario - made real recently for one LCMS congregation that made the local news because of the situation.
The church secretary gets
a seemingly innocuous email. Maybe it looks like a vendor invoice to be paid, but she doesn't recognize the sender. There is an attachment. The secretary opens the attachment, which appears to be gibberish. A dialogue box offers to "clean it up" if she clicks the button, but clicking on it does nothing so she deletes the email and goes off to her lunch break.
When she returns to her desk later that day, all the files on the computer are encrypted and there is a screen on the desktop saying that the files are being held for ransom. If the church wants them decrypted, they will have to pay.
This particular type of threat is called "ransomware," and according to Trend Micro (an industry leader in computer security), it has been around since 2005, spreading first in Russia before expanding to the rest of the world.

Congregations were mailed instructions for submitting their 2015 statistical report on February 1, 2016. To date only
47% of the English District congregations have reported. The deadline has been extended to April 10th. Please complete and return it as soon as possible.

CIRCUIT VISITORS CONFERENCES
June 14-17, 2016

The 2016 Professional Church Workers (PCW) and Circuit Visitors Conferences will be held June 14-17, 2016 in Milwaukee, WI. The registration deadline is April 29th.
DEADLINE for your District registration form is April 29th.

by May 13th.
