Last night, the Downtown Denver Partnership presented six awards to transformational projects in Downtown Denver that contribute to an economically healthy, growing and vital center city at the 55th Annual Downtown Denver Awards Dinner, presented by Polsinelli.
The honorees, selected by a jury of key business leaders convened by the Downtown Denver Partnership, are businesses, projects and initiatives that had the most significant impact on the center city in 2015.
The 55th Annual Downtown Denver Awards winners are:
16M;
Balfour at Riverfront Park;
Co-Development Expansion Project at the Denver Art Museum-the ART Hotel;
Elan Union Station-King Soopers;
Lawrence Street Community Center; and
Regency Athletic Complex at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
More than 1,000 people - a new attendance record - celebrated award winners at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center.

Yesterday, legendary folk singer Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary, was inducted to the Denver Southeast Rotary Club as an honorary member in acknowledgement of his partnership with the Club and Rotary District 5450 for The Peaceful Schools Program through Operation Respect.
The Peaceful Schools Program was developed in Denver in the fall of 2013 and has now expanded to 15 schools and 50 classrooms,
teaching social and emotional skills to more than 750 elementary school children and hundreds of high school students who are trained and delivering the program in these schools.
Peter Yarrow had been a champion of the program and instrumental in connecting Rotary to this important cause.

Colorado State University-Global Campus joined hundreds of local students, government officials, community leaders, and education providers at the national launch of Skillful held at the Emily Griffith Technical College last month. Skillful, a new career platform, creates collaboration between educational providers, job seekers, and companies. The platform's purpose is to aggregate resources, and ultimately broaden the employment discussion to include skills, rather than degrees-only. As part of the pilot program, CSU-Global joined forces with founding partners LinkedIn and the Markle Foundation on this groundbreaking initiative.
The most innovative aspect of this partnership is the LinkedIn training finder, which creates a direct link between jobs, skills, and employers. Similar to the training finder, CSU-Global works with affiliates to complement its programs. The university utilizes programmatic advisory boards comprised of industry experts and hiring managers to obtain industry insight from the field, and uses this feedback to refine and assess courses biannually. Importantly, these boards identify key skills that industries require. These skills have been identified and integrated into the LinkedIn training finder, allowing job seekers to view CSU-Global programs and specific outcomes.

The optimism of Colorado business leaders remains unchanged entering the second quarter of 2016, but is projected to slightly dip ahead of the third quarter of the year, according to a University of Colorado Boulder report.
Additionally, more than half of respondents surveyed for the index indicated a talent shortage in Colorado, which can lead to higher salaries or wages, lower retention rates, slower business growth and higher project costs, as well as longer recruiting processes and the need to hire from out of state.

Footers Catering was awarded the "ACE" award at the Catersource National Catering Conference in Las Vegas on March 15th, 2016. The annual Catersource Achievement in Catering Excellence (ACE) Award recognizes companies that have shown noteworthy achievement in the catering industry through culinary, business, community and professional development.
Each year, winners are chosen to represent the best of the best in each of these three geographic regions: East, West and International. These regions are broken down into two revenue segments: Annual revenue up to $2 million and greater than $2 million. Footers Catering won the award for best in the western region over $2 million.

Last Friday, April 1, forty-four
current and former senators and 164 current and former house members from thirty-eight states filed an amicus brief to support President Obama's Clean Power Plan in case currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals. Additionally, the brief stands to defend EPA's authority to protect public health and the environment by regulating new pollutants in keeping with the intention of the Clean Air Act Of 1970.

are holding a series of events along the line that will give you all of the details about the service improvements that are on the way.

Physical Activity (ideas to get
kids moving and engage outdoor spaces differently) or
Nutrition (ideas that provide kids access to healthy foods and the education to make good choices).

Op-Ed from Job Creators Network
Last month, a group calling itself the Colorado Families for a Fair Wage proposed a ballot measure hiking the state's minimum wage to $12 per hour. This comes after several attempts to raise Colorado's minimum wage failed in the state Legislature.
For good reason: A minimum wage increase is a bad move for Colorado. Because hiking the minimum wage makes employees more expensive and therefore less employable, it would actually hurt rather than help.
Only about 3 percent of Coloradans earn the minimum wage, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So raising the minimum wage would do little to help the working poor. And 60 percent of minimum-wage earners fall between the ages of 16 and 24 - when people are just entering the workforce and earning entry-level wages.
This means that there are only about 64,000 minimum wage employees in Colorado above the age of 25 who aren't entry-level but are in need of some help. A better way to help them is expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, or EITC.

Congress Returns from Recess
The U.S. Senate returned after its spring recess on Monday, April 4, and the U.S. House returns next Monday, April 11.
The Top Line: U.S. Economy Adds 215,000 Jobs in March
The labor market showed resiliency in March despite continued global headwinds. According to this week's Bureau of Labor Analysis'
employment situation summary, non-farm payrolls added 215,000 jobs, while the average hourly workweek held steady and wage growth ticked up. Finally, the slight uptick in March's unemployment rate - from 4.9 percent to 5 percent - was coupled with an increase in the labor force participation rate, suggesting that sustained labor market gains may be drawing more Americans into the labor force. The Top Line: GDP Up 2.4 Percent in 2015
The U.S. economy grew by 1.4 percent (revised) in the fourth quarter of 2015, down from 2 percent in in the third quarter but faster than previously estimated, according to a March 25
Bureau of Economic Affairs release. Solid consumer spending and strong residential investment in Q4 were partially offset by reduced business investment and negative net exports. Despite a slowdown in the second half of the year, economic growth averaged 2.4 percent in 2015 - the same growth rate as 2014 and above the 2.1 percent average rate for the six years following the recession.
