Matt Wetli, RCP Distinguished Lecture, will be in Forum Hall at 4:00 pm next Monday, April 21. All LA and RCP classes should attend.

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Assistant Professor Huston Gibson will receive the Commerce Bank and William T. Kemper Outstanding Teaching Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions in the classroom. Congratulations Huston!

Dr. Greg Newmark, Assistant Professor, has been appointed as a panel member for a Transit Cooperative Research Project research project. This is the second panel Greg has been invited to serve on with TCRP, a branch of the Federal Transit Administration.

A team of landscape architecture and biological & agricultural engineering students tied for first place in the 2016 Great Plains Low Impact Development Design Competition in Omaha, NE, Tuesday, March 8. The team included landscape architecture students Conner Bruns and Jonathan Knight; BAE students Kelsey Mcdonough, Kari Bigham and Erica Schmitz; and Faculty advisors Lee Skabelund, Stacy Hutchinson and Trisha Moore.

Two PBS shows addressing important landscape architecture and planning locations will debut in April. "10 Parks That Changed America" airs nationally on April 12 at 7:00 pm on KTWU. "10 Towns That Changed America" airs on April 19 at 7:00 pm on KTWU. Each of the shows will be rebroadcast throughout the week of their airing.

The next Creative Placemaking Leadership Summit will be Friday, March 18 at Rutgers-Newark (NJ). Up to 250 key influencers from the fields of physical development, economic development, urban planning and design, and arts and heritage are expected to participate. Click here for more information.

The KS APA Spring 2016 Symposium, hosted by the City of Wichita, will take place Friday, April 22. This all day event, from 8am to 4pm (lunch will be at the food trucks in the popup park!) will include a bike tour. There will also be an evening reception for those who wish to stay. APA KS will reimburse any student travelers for gas money (as long as they carpool with a minimum of 3 in a vehicle).

Global Food Systems Research Science Communication Symposium April 28, 2016. Presentations by graduate  students and post-doctoral research team members begin at 2 pm. Keynote talk by artist and National Geographic photo-essayist Jim Richardson on the Origins of Agriculture begins at 4:30 pm, Beach Museum of Art, UMB auditorium.

Kansas City Design Week 2016 will take place  April 7 - 16 and will be filled with exciting events and experiences that will inspire you to take the next step in your creative journey, wherever you are and wherever you're headed.  Registration is open now .

The Landscape Architecture Foundation Summit on Landscape Architecture and the Future will take place at the University of Pennsylvania, June 10-11, 2016. The Summit marks 50 years since Ian McHarg and other leading landscape architects composed LAF's seminal Declaration of Concern, which decried the burgeoning environmental crisis and heralded landscape architecture as critical to help solve it. Building on this legacy, this one-time historic gathering will culminate in a redrafting of the original 1966 Declaration of Concern and a landmark publication of the ideas presented. Registration is open now, early bird registration ends April 1.
