COMMUNITY FUND FOR CANADA'S 150TH
Edmonton Community Foundation in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada and the Government of Canada

Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017 is a chance to encourage all Canadians to contribute to their communities in a way that will foster a greater sense of belonging, support meaningful reconciliation and leave a lasting legacy now and for future generations.

Edmonton charities can apply for grants of up to $15,000 to support locally-led projects that build community, inspire a deeper understanding of Canada, and encourage participation in a wide range of initiatives that mark Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. Applications are due April 29, 2016.

SPECIAL MOBILITY-IMPAIRED ON-SITE DRIVING TOURS
Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village

A mobility-impaired tour program provides improved access to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. Pre-booked groups are allowed to bring their own bus/van and drive through the historic areas. Participants remain on board while a costumed guide brings the museum experience to them. Groups have the choice of morning or afternoon tours with lunch. This tour option is offered on Wednesdays in July and on Tuesdays in August. Review program details and contact [email protected] or 780-662-3640 for more information.

SENIORS OUTREACH WORKER (TEMPORARY)
Strathcona County Family and Community Services

The Seniors Outreach Worker will focus on strengthening the well-being and improving the quality of life for Strathcona County seniors. Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducts home visits with seniors and their families who have complex issues (social isolation, grief/loss, mental health, transportation, advocacy, housing, health and addictions)
  • Conducts needs assessments, develops case plans and provides information, advocacy and supportive referrals; develops trusting relationships
  • Facilitates and monitors the client's progress towards attaining goals and make adjustments to case plans as necessary

Key qualifications include a post-secondary degree in the Human Services field and a minimum of three years' experience working with seniors and their families and an understanding of gerontology and the aging process.

CAREGIVER COLLAGE WORKSHOP AND RESEARCH STUDY
No cost to participants

University of Alberta researchers conducting a study called The Use of Collage Techniques as a Means of Eliciting Story about Home Care and Caregiving: The Family Caregiver's Perspective invite you to participate. 

This study will explore what it means to receive home care services and be a primary caregiver for a family member. The study information will be used to increase understanding about home care and inform home care and caregiving policy. Caregivers are invited to participate in an arts-based workshop (April 19 or 20 from 1-4:30 p.m.), create a collage, and take part in an interview.

PROVINCIAL TRANSIT STRATEGY ENGAGEMENT

The Government of Alberta is committed to hearing about the transportation needs of Albertans living in rural and urban communities across the province. This information will help provide a better understanding of the varying public transportation issues, challenges and opportunities.

Albertans and transportation stakeholders are invited to provide input that will be used to inform the development of program criteria for new municipal transit initiatives and rural bus service funding, and the development of a provincial transit strategy. Feedback will be accepted until April 29, 2016.

SENIORS UNITED NOW MEETINGS

The North West Edmonton Chapter of SUN Seniors United Now welcomes you to attend their monthly meeting through which they address seniors issues of concern. A friendly welcome awaits all. Please join them for coffee, friendship and informative speakers. 

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at Trinity United Church (8810 Meadowlark Road). Registration is at 1 p.m. and speaker at 2 p.m.
