Issue #4 April 2016
Is this funny or what?!?

I'm pretty sure no one remembers many of the old Abbott and Costello skits. But check out this 2-minute clip from one of their shows; it never fails to get everybody laughing:

Leave it to Abbott and Costello to find a new way of looking at an old problem. It just goes to show that different people often see different things. It never hurts to have a fresh set of eyes checking on things from time to time.

And now that you're finally getting past the tax filing deadline, it doesn't hurt to have someone look at your completed return to see if there are ways to reduce your taxes for next year.

Remember, it's your accountant's job to make sure the numbers you give him end up in the right boxes on the right forms. It's my job to see if there are easy ways to improve the numbers you give your accountant next year so that you can legally pay the least amount of tax possible!

Let me know if you would like me to take a quick look. In most cases I can tell you if you can save taxes in 10-15 minutes.

Best,

William G. Cummings

"It wasn't on my calendar. "

Most people do not plan for a medical, mental or aging crisis for a parent-or themselves, and if such a crisis is not on your calendar, prepare now. None of us know what we don't know, and when a loved one's health and/or mind are failing, this is no time to have a crash-course in learning.

  • Who do I turn to for advice?
  • What kind of questions do I ask?
  • Do I plan a loved one's care for this immediate crisis-or make a plan that includes future needs as conditions worsen?
  • How do I respond to the many needs: place to live (kinds of facilities), care (who provides and what kinds), costs (and how to pay them), and advisors (finding the right people to handle finances and elder planning).
If you have more questions than answers, this first-hand guidebook, written by a CPA/ financial planner about his dad's situation, will provide answers. Now you will be able to deal with your own situation with more knowledge and focus.
