April 20, 2016
The 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is underway! Archbishop Sartain's letter is arriving in homes now. We are seeking everyone's participation this year so that we reach our goal of $
90,692 as quickly as possible!

Frank Feeman will join us at all Masses on the weekend of April 23/24 to share his personal story about the Annual Catholic Appeal.

If you gave last year, please consider increasing your gift by 5% this year. If you did not give last year, would you consider a gift of a dollar a day ($365)? Gifts of any amount are welcome, and your gift will make a big impact on many lives!

Y ou can make your gift today online at www.seattlearchdiocese.org/donate

All gifts have until April 2017 to be fulfilled. Thank you for your support and participation!
Golden Fellowship Luncheon

The parish will be providing soup.
Bring a side dish to share or just come for the fellowship!
There will be a rosary for Chris Jarvis and his family Wednesday, April 27th at 7pm in the Church.   This will bring a sense of peace and support to our community.
Dear St John volunteers:

We have volunteer opportunities coming up! We need your help to make First Communion a great experience for the children who will be celebrating the sacrament this Spring.

1.      We need assistance to prepare Egan Hall for the First Communion receptions. Friday April 29th from 3-4pm we'll set up the space for the receptions that follow the First Communion Masses. This is a perfect task for those picking up children from school.

2.      We need help to serve at the First Communion Receptions. Saturday April 30th for the 5pm mass and Sunday May 3rd for the 8:30am and 10:30am mass. My daughter, Arwen, will be coordinating the set-up. We need someone who knows how to use the coffee maker!

Please consider giving a few hours to our lovely children. Check the Sign-Up Genius link for specific times and shifts.

Thank you all so much for all you do for St John and our children!

Julia Rudden
Director of Sacramental Preparation
St John the Evangelist-Seattle
Thank you!
Huge thank you to the First Communion team who worked so hard to make Monday's St John tradition of bread making a lovely experience for our 2nd graders. Pat Hendrickson, Telia Oines, Teresa Willson, Arwen Rudden-Flanagan, and especially to Joanne Jepson who braved the traffic mess caused by the broken Ballard Bridge to bring bread making to Egan hall again.
Thank you all so much - Julia Rudden
Do you enjoy reading Dean Koontz novels?  Did you know that Koontz is a practicing Catholic?  In recent years, his Catholicism has become more obvious in his writing.  For a great read, with a surprising and VERY Catholic ending, try his novel Innocence.  Bonus: The Seattle Public Library has 3 copies.  (Thanks to Ann Marty.)

"Lord you know the stresses and issues that cloud my mind and heart. Send forth your Spirit that I may with great clarity embrace and act upon the gifts of faith, hope, love."  (Thanks to Soheila Beberness.)

If you have a prayer nugget you'd like to share with the parish, please email Bill Marty, bill@takenroad.com
Meet Laura Thornquist

Laura is an alumna of both St. John (2004) and Holy Names Academy (2008) and is delighted to be singing again at St. John as a cantor.  She currently attends medical school at the University of Washington and is thinking of becoming a family physician. Her other hobbies include cooking, knitting and crochet, and bargain hunting with her mom, Michele.
On April 16, 2016, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador, killing at least 350 people, a number that is expected to rise as first responders reach the affected area.

Hundreds more have been injured and there are reports of widespread damage to buildings, roads and other infrastructure.
Esmeraldas and ManabĂ, two of the hardest hit areas, have received substantial rainfall recently, making them prone to potential landslides and complicating access. "Some of the poorest provinces are located near the coast and we expect thousands of people to need immediate help," said Tom Hollywood, CRS' Representative for South America.
Your donation will help us to provide critical supplies for families left homeless by the quake: tarps and other emergency shelter materials, means for clean water, hygiene and sanitation. Water, food and emergency shelter will be the biggest needs in the coming days.

The people of Ecuador urgently need your help. Your donation will help CRS respond immediately to families affected by this disaster.
Give now to respond to the needs of survivors in Ecuador. Thank you for your prayers and your generous support.
Parish Lending Library

Check out the new bookshelf in the vestibule of the church.  There are many interesting books and CDs to help you answer questions, go deeper into your faith, and also learn!  Some are to borrow and some are yours to keep.
Matthew Kelly thinks if Catholics read/hear a good Catholic book at least once a year, they will be much more engaged Catholics.

We hope you enjoy this wonderful new resource.
