ATHLETICS: TRACK & FIELD

O n May 16, our NYI Stars boys and girls track teams took first place at the 69th Annual Eastern Athletic Association for the Blind (EAAB) Tournament in Watertown, Massachusetts. 

Competing against over 80 blind and visually impaired athletes from five schools, our students excelled in multiple events, including the shot put, softball and football throw; standing broad jump and long jump; 220, 440 and 880-yard race, and tandem mile.

At the EAAB tournament on May 16, Eric won first place in the softball throw and shot put, and took second in the 50- and 75-yard dash.

Sarai Ramirez (Sophomore, Schermerhorn Program)
One of our most accomplished athletes, Sarai won first place  in the long jump, high jump, hop step jump and 3-con jump at the EAAB tournament on May 16.

COLLABORATIONS: AMERICAN FOUNDATION FOR THE BLIND

UPDATES: 185th ANNIVERSARY & TUTORING PROGRAM

Our 2015/2016 school year will kick off in September and marks the start of our 185th year of service for blind and visually impaired children and teens in New York City.  Click here   to learn about our origins.

Tutoring Program
Students in our tutoring programs are eagerly awaiting the results of their exams in Math and the English Language Arts, which will take place throughout the month of June.  We wish our students good luck on their exams and thank you for your support of the program during the 2014/15 school year.
UPCOMING EVENTS: GRADUATION, SUMMER SCHOOL & CAMP WANAQUA

Commencement ceremonies for our Schermerhorn and Van Cleve programs will take place on June 24 on the NYISE campus. Congratulations to all of our graduates. Click here for photos of our 2014 commencement ceremony.
Summer School
We look forward to welcoming select students from our Schermerhorn and Van Cleve programs to summer school, where they will receive the support they need to prevent the loss of skills and knowledge that they have gained during the school year.  Click here t o learn more about how students are selected to participate in summer school.
Open to blind and visually impaired campers from throughout New York City, Camp Wanaqua 2015 will provide four weeks of free programming, fun activities and opportunities to build lifelong friendships. Our Camp Wanaqua 2015 fundraising campaign is happening right now and we invite you to join in our efforts by making a donation that is meaningful to you.

The New York Institute for Special Education (NYISE) is a private, 501(c)(3)  nonprofit, nonsectarian educational facility which provides quality educational  programs for  children who are blind or visually disabled, emotionally and learning disabled  and preschoolers who are developmentally delayed.
