What a Celebration of Communities & 30 Years of Accomplishments!  
Thank you to everyone who joined us or sent their best wishes as we celebrated Generations United's 30th Anniversary and recognized three terrific communities for their outstanding commitment to intergenerational solutions! Check out photos from the event and learn more about the 2016 awardees.
All Generations Benefit from PIE in Schools
In Donna's latest Huffington Post blog, co-authored by Generations United Strategic Advisor Juan Williams, they emphasize the valuable role of Grandparents and other older adults, especially when it comes to supporting the education of our children. A perfect example is the success of Glenmount School's PIE (or Partner's in Education) program, which has engaged grandparents as full partners in its efforts to increase family engagement.
Huffington Post invites you to Talk To Me
The Huff Po is building a movement to spark conversations between parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren and grandfriends. They want you to be a part of it. Using your smart phone, you can capture a conversation with someone of another generation and post it on Facebook live using the hashtag #TalkToMe. Check out Talk To Me to learn more about the five easy steps to participate.
President Signs Older American's Act
On April 19th, President Obama signed the bill to reauthorization of the Older American's Act. Generations United is pleased that it includes a number of intergenerational provisions including language to encourage intergenerational shared sites, modernize multipurpose senior centers, and to expand eligibility of for the National Family Caregiver  Support Program to older caregiving of adults children with disabilities. We're creating a fact sheet so stay tuned for a more detailed summary of intergenerational provisions. 
Celebrate Older Americans Month 2016
May is Older Americans Month, and this year's theme is "Blaze a Trail." The Administration for Community Living will use May as an opportunity to raise awareness about important issues facing older adults. Join in promoting activities, inclusion, and wellness for older Americans in your community.  Learn more

Finland's "Homes That Fit" program is a win win

In Finland where housing costs are high, young people find more than just inexpensive rent when they move into senior apartment buildings. As for the older adults? "These youngsters are the sun." Watch this great video to learn more!

Good Neighbor School Impact Grants
Youth Service America and State Farm are looking for school administrators who want to create a culture of meaningful learning through service in their school or school district. Twenty K-12 schools or school districts will be selected to receive a grant of up to $5,000.   Deadline: May 6, 2016. 
 
Funds Available for Anti-Gang Efforts
The Comprehensive  Anti-Gang Strategies and Programs initiative of the Department of Justice supports community partnership implementing anti-gang programs, including primary and secondary prevention, gang intervention, and targeted gang enforcement. Deadline: Mary 23, 2016. Learn more

TechSoup's Storymakers 2016 contest is a great opportunity to improve your skills and create a compelling narrative that motivates your funders, supporters, and the media.  This year's storytelling campaign will have four prizes: Best Nonprofit Video, Best Nonprofit Photography, Audience Choice Award, and Best Story of Tomorrow Award, focusing on youth and the next generation.  TechSoup will host a series of free webinars around topics like storyboarding, production, and polishing video.  The Storymakers 2016 contest begins April 5 and ends on May 31. The Retirement Research Foundation Accepting Applications for Projects in Aging
Based in Chicago, the Retirement Research Foundation is one of the nation's first private foundations devoted exclusively to aging and retirement issues. Advocacy, training, and research projects, all with national relevance, are considered from organizations located anywhere in the United States. Proposals for direct service and advocacy projects that have a local focus are considered from organizations based in seven states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, or Florida.  Deadline: August 1, 2016

Youth Opportunity Fund Grants
  Citi Foundation and America's Promise Alliance are awarding one-year grants of up to $250,000 in 10 major cities that will launch or expand innovative programs that prepare low-income young adults, 16 to 24, for continuing education, careers and lifelong success.   Deadline: May 2, 2016.  Learn more

Capital Grants for Education and Healthcare in Seventeen States
The Gladys Brooks Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations located in the seventeen states.The Foundation focuses its grantmaking on libraries, educational institutions, and hospitals and clinics in the targeted states. Grant applications will be considered only for major expenditures, generally between $50,000 and $100,000. Funds are intended to be used for capital projects, including equipment and endowments. Deadline: May 31, 2016. Learn more
