ARABIC AND AIRPLANES
 
  Khairuuldeen Makhzoomi and Maher Khalil and Anas Ayyad, like millions of Americans are bilingual. Occasionally they speak Arabic. But their fellow Americans who fly Southwest Airlines hated Arabic without understanding a word of it.

Experts say that such irrational and baseless fear is called phobia; a sickness akin to a malignant cancer making an entire society gravely sick. 
To learn more about this sickness and possible cures for it, Makhzoomi's school at the University of California in Berkeley, will hold a conference titled "Has Islamophobia Reached a Tipping Point?" which you can watch LIVE between Friday April 22nd and Saturday April 23rd.
 
     
BEFORE AND BEYOND

  Commonly understood and practiced norms of marriage and divorce have now become uncommon in nearly all communities. Muslim communities are no exception. To address the underlying challenges, a group of thoughtful social engineers, theologians and media activists have produced a series of useful short films and resources: Marriage Success. 

The following 6 short videos deemed to have been most important for premarital education.

1. What ought to be realistic mutual expectations before marriage? 
2. Why is it important to have a financial plan before marriage? 
3. How to strike a balance with in-laws?
4. Is communication a key for a successful marriage?
5. Does domestic violence equally harm the abused and the abuser?
6. Is pornography a new plague destroying marriage life?

The following 4 short videos may prove to be winning strategies for married couples to further improve their lives.

7. It is simply: listening for bonding.
8. Mutual consultation never hurts.
9. To communicate effectively is more than an art and science.
10.Techniques to de-escalate tensions.

The City of Anaheim invites the residents of Anaheim to participate in the city-wide service day on April 30th.
 
100th Pulitzer's are announced: the Associated Press takes gold for their public service reporting on Seafood and Slavery; the Washington Post wins the national reporting on Fatal Force, a database of civilians killed by police. See the complete list here.
