Bauler Park Playlot To Receive New Playground Equipment
Dear Neighbor,

Over the past several months, the Lincoln Central Association, the Bauler Park Advisory Council and my office have worked to secure Chicago Park District "Chicago Plays!" funds for playground equipment at the Bauler Park playlot. Our goal is to begin renovations later this year. Click here for a larger view of the rendering of the initial design.


Please give your feedback at a public meeting on the initial redesign and discuss possible improvements beyond the Park District funding.

Jumping Jack Application Form Now Online

Looking to have a jumping jack at your block party? Apply now! The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced that the 2016 Jumping Jack application will now be strictly an online process, and applications will no longer be accepted in paper form, email, or fax. Jumping Jack applications will continue to be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Notice of availability will be received within about 48 hours of submission.  The Jumping Jack Program operates Saturdays and Sundays from May 28th through August 28th. 

Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedule

As of April 6, 2016 , the majority of the 43rd Ward garbage pickup day has changed from Tuesdays to Wednesdayswith a small area bounded by Lakewood, Fullerton, Racine, and Webster moved to Thursdays. Recycling, which is collected every other week, will remain the same except for curbside pickup, which will also be collected on Wednesdays.  Click here  to view the 43rd Ward collection map. 

Street Sweeping Schedule
 
Street sweeping began April 1st. Sweeping locations are assigned on a five to six week rotation.  Click here  to view the 2016 schedule.

Wednesday: Coffee with the Commander

Commander George Devereux of the 18th District will be at Eva's Cafe, 1447 N. Sedgwick, on Wednesday, April 20th  at 9:30 AM to  chat with neighbors about  community safety. This is a new program sponsored by the Near North Unity Program that will take place on the third Wednesday of every month.

Wednesday: Near North Unity Program Presents Rachel Laser In Conversation About 
Race & Privilege
 
Join the Near North Unity Program for a discussion about race and privilege conducted by Chicago activist and attorney Rachel Laser, formerly of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. Thursday: Neighbors Night at the 
Theatre School at DePaul University

The Theatre School at DePaul University and The Office of Community & Government Relations are pleased to invite their Lincoln Park neighbors to the annual Neighbors Night. Enjoy a free reception and cocktails, then attend Moliere's The Misanthrope, Thursday, April 21st at the Theatre School at DePaul University, 2350 N. Friday: Electronic and Hazardous Waste 
Recycling Drive at DePaul
 
DePaul University Environmental Health and Safety Department will take your household hazardous waste and electronics (no TVs) on Friday, April 22 from 10 AM - 3 PM at the Sheffield and Fullerton parking lot.  Included are:  

  • Unused and expired medication 
  • Antifreeze and motor oil 
  • Oil Based Paint 
  • Grease and Cooking Oil 
  • Insecticides, lawn chemicals
  • Solvents and Cleaning Products 
  • Light bulbs, including compact fluorescents 
  • Batteries 
  • Aerosols
  • All electronics except TVs

OTTA Presents: 
Architectural Restoration & Preservation of 
Wood

The Old Town Triangle is hosting a presentation on the care and restoration of original wood in vintage architectural homes, presented by  Jeff Ediger, an expert and owner of  Oak Brothersa shop dedicated to the restoration of architectural wood. Everyone who is interested is welcome to join on Tuesday, April 26th at 7 PM at the Old Town Triangle, 1763 N. Property Tax Appeal Update
 
The Cook County Assessor's Office is now accepting property tax assessment appeals for homeowners in Lakeview Township, which includes all homes in the 43rd Ward north of Fullerton Ave.  The appeals deadline is   May 6th .

Homeowners may appeal their property tax assessment online here, or they may contact Commissioner Gainer's Office at 312-603-4210 or   [email protected] .  In addition, Commissioners Gainer and Fritchey will have staff at our office on Wednesday, April 27th to assist you.

North Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation

Work continues on the pedestrian bridge connecting Lincoln Park to North Avenue Beach over Lake Shore Drive. The bridge will be closed and there will be lane closures on LSD until June 30. Two lanes of traffic remain open.  Click here  for more information about the project and traffic impact.
