Broadway BIA- How does it work?
We've been asked by many folks to describe the BBIA's rate assessment process
,
service territory,
rate calculation and governance. The BBIA was created in 1986 by city ordinance and rates are based on sales tax revenue reported to Seattle. The City Council has amended the original ordinance four times over the past 30 years to expand the service area or increase rates. The 2001 Ordinance 120303 updated business rates to the following:
- $2 per $1,000 in revenue except for financial institutions
- A flat fee of $3,500 for financial institutions
- A minimum fee of $50.00 and an annual cap of $3,500.
The current
BBIA is governed by a six person Board who ensures the annual funds are spent on street cleaning, graffiti removal, rate payer education and other needs as they arise.

State of the Hill

Let's celebrate this past year with local Capitol Hill businesses! Come meet other small business owners and hear about a recap of the year and what's to come. This year's State of the Hill Address will be the first for our Executive Director, Sierra Hansen.
This year's Spirit Award will be presented by Rick Fehrenbacher, Dean of Seattle University School of New and Continuing Education, during our State of the Hill celebration this week.
This year, the Spirit Award will be presented to an individual, organization or business that has shown an outstanding commitment to the Capitol Hill community. The Spirit Award represents the best of Capitol Hill through community service, excellence, and passion for this neighborhood.

Cal Anderson Cleanup

Join the Captiol Hill Ecodistrict, Capitol Hill Community Council, Cal Anderson Park Alliance, and your fellow community members at Cal Anderson Park for a Spring Clean-Up!
Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves, etc. Wear comfotable clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty. We
will be meeting up at the Shelter House located in the center of the park at 10am on Sunday, April 24th.

Clean Sweep

Every Spring the Chamber organizes an annual Clean Sweep of the Hill, usually in early June. Volunteers from around the neighborhood gather at Cal Anderson Park and are dispersed to scrub the streets. It's a great way to meet your neighbors and help make the place sparkle.
