Retrofit/Recall Fixes on MFP Program Xerox Devices

The IDS Multifunction Printer (MFP) Program has approximately 170 retrofits that need to be completed. These retrofits consist of two different types, the first being the replacement of the network controller processor cooling fan and the second being the adjustment of the toner warning message from 10 days to 1 day.  
 
The reasons for these retrofits are as follows and are quoted from the bulletins that were received from Xerox engineers:

Cooling Fan Retrofit:

"The Controller Processor Heat Sink Fan causes audible noise but no machine faults. If the fan has become detached from the CPU or has become inoperable then the machine may experience faults."   
   
The advantages of replacing these fans are twofold. The first issue regarding the audible noise can be distracting to some that work near the machine and the second issue regarding the detachment of the fan can cause the machine to become inoperable for copying, printing, and scanning. By replacing these fans, we can avoid frustration experienced by our customers and avoid extended down time of the machine by being proactive before any noise or faults occur.

Toner Warning Message:
 
"Customers frequently replace the toner cartridge while the Reorder Toner message is visible, rather than following the instructions to wait for the Replace Now message. Large amounts of unused toner are frequently wasted when toner cartridges are replaced before the true end of life."
 
Currently the "Reorder Toner" message is displayed when the customer has 10 days left of toner usage but instead of waiting for the "Replace Now" message these cartridges are being replaced prematurely. The retrofit adjusts this time period from 10 days down to 1 day so that nearly all of the toner is used should the cartridge be replaced too soon.  When the customer replaces the toner before it is actually due they have to change them more frequently which results in a loss of their production time and a significant amount of wasted toner.
 
IDS will be dispatching Xerox Service Technicians to retrofit and fix recalled items.
