Wheatland, Missouri (April 17, 2016) - Todd McCoin hopped out of his race car and pumped his fist. It was time to celebrate at a place where Lady Luck has not always ridding alongside.

"It's been a long time coming at this track," McCoin said Saturday night after his wire-to-wire victory in the ALPS Food Stores ULMA Late Model feature at Lucas Oil Speedway.

McCoin earned $1,000 courtesy of ALPS Food Store in Pittsburg, Mo., on the opening night of the Budweiser Weekly Championship Series - a program presented by KOZL Channel 27.

Other feature winners included Chad Clancy (Ozark Golf Cars B-Mods), Jeff Cutshaw (Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds) and Derek Brown (Carson's Corner NAPA Street Stocks).

Before the racing program, there was a special tribute to Jake Williams, a former ULMA Late Model track champ who lost his life during the offseason. Late Model driver Jon Binning drove  Williams' No. 72 race car a lap around the track after a video presentation in a ceremonial pace lap.

McCoin, of Barnett, Mo., said the victory was sweet because, "I've had some pretty bad luck here. I think we might have turned it around."

Larry Ferris of Nevada finished second with Chris Smyser of Lancaster wound up third.

The first half of the race hotly contested. McCoin led, but Aaron Marrant and Jeremy Kelley were in hot pursuit with the trio weaving in and out of lapped traffic.

But Marrant and Kelley were eliminated in a lap-26 accident. McCoin was dominated after the re-start.

"That was unfortunate for those two," McCoin said of the misfortunate for Marrant and Kelley. "Things happen, I guess."

The "Hard Charger" was Jason Russell, who finished sixth after starting 24th in the feature. Russell picked up $100 from Keyser Manufacturing Products which gives the Hard Charger Award to the ULMA Late Models each week and $100 from Out-Pace Racing Products, which awards the Hard Charger to the featured class each week.

Chad Clancy beat Kris Jackson by inches to win the Ozark Golf Cars B-Mod feature. (Chris Bork photo)
In the closest finish of the night, Clancy beat Kris Jackson by about a foot at the finish line to take the B-Mod victory. Clancy, of Excelsior Springs, made a dive to the inside of Jackson coming out of turn four and just beat the Lebanon driver in a photo finish.

J.C. Morton of Springfield was close behind the top two after pushing Jackson for the lead midway through the race. Brian McGowan of Pittsburg, Kan., was fourth.

"I didn't think I had anything for him there," Clancy said. "I don't know what happened on the last corner. I cut it down and it worked. Those guys are all great to race with every week. I've never won here. I've always wanted to.

"This year is off to a great start," added Clancy, who won his third straight race after taking two wins at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

Bolivar's Cutshaw, the reigning USRA Mod track champ, led all the way to earn his first victory of the season and take his first step toward defending the title. Eric Turner of Hermitage charged from deep in the field to finish second and Dylan Hoover of Vandalia was third.

Brown, of Stoutland, won his second feature of the season, driving away to a comfortable margin over the final 10 laps. David Hendrix of Buckhorn was second and Timothy Brown of Stoutland finished third.

Racing resumes next Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway as KLOZ-Mix 92.7 presents round No. 2 of the Budweiser Weekly Racing Series. It's also the first $uper $aver $pecial Night of 2016 as (4) Admissions, (4) Hot Dogs, and (4) 20 ounce Cola-Cola products are just $30 for all fans arriving before 6:30pm.

Classes in action include the ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models, the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, the Carson's Corner Napa Street Stocks, and the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods. The Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods will be the featured class of the evening running a Special 25 Lap, $500 to win Main Event.

Gates open at 5:00, Hot Laps at 7:00, and racing at 7:30.
