Great Places to Cycle - Georgina

Still one of the GTA's best kept cycling secrets, the town of Georgina, in York Region abutting
the southern shores of Lake Simcoe, has been on the map for dedicated road and recreational cyclists for some time now. With fantastic routes popular for both touring or training, the area has been attracting a growing numbers of cyclists looking for quiet paved routes.
The area has this in spades and coupled with scenic waterfront and rural riding, it's no wonder many have added Georgina to their lists of must ride destinations in Ontario.
Consider riding on one of two cycling routes featuring Georgina
on the brand new
York Region Cycling Tour Map
. York Century (100 km) and Simcoe Beaches (66 km) both showcase some of the most scenic riding in the area. Give yourself lots
of time to enjoy the beach stops and the dozens of kilometres of waterfront riding along
Lake Simcoe's
shoreline
featured on
these routes. A visit to Sibbald Provincial Park offers up its own great beach and a museum that make exploring the park a great day trip or overnight option with camping available in the park or roofed accommodations close by.
Cycling in Georgina offers up great spots to stop for ice cream, snacks and meals
along or close to the lake. Get refreshments in Keswick, Sutton or Pefferlaw and don't pass up the community of Jackson's Point with its gallery and custom woodworkers offering delivery service for cyclists as well lots of community bike racks.
Bring your mountain bike and ride the North Shore Bike Trails l
ocated at the fantastic ROC facility in Georgina. Approximately 5 km of trails consisting of two distinct trail challenges geared towards intermediate and advanced riders. Also on site is the ROC Bike Park, which offers three main sections; dirt jumps, pumptrack and a learning area, which with free entry is ideal for beginner riders and youth.

New Certification Category "Brewery"
The craft beer scene in Ontario is really taking off. Small breweries, unique tasting rooms and brewpubs are popping up all across Ontario and it's no rare sight to see bikes parked out front and a table cyclists sipping, snacking and savouring the latest fares. Its with this strong affinity in mind that Ontario By Bike has created a new certification category for breweries!
If you are a beer aficionado or simply appreciate a tall cool one post-ride, pair the route of your choice with one of the 11 certified bicycle friendly breweries that are part of the Ontario By Bike Network!

2016 Ontario By Bike Rides - June Niagara South
Join Ontario By Bike on this two-day, small group tour that features primarily off-road riding along the Greater Niagara Circle Route. On June 18-19, d
iscover the quieter side of Niagara and Niagara south, with this spectacular trail ride along the Niagara River Recreational Trail, the Friendship Trail and the Welland Canal Parkway Trail.
With an average daily ride distance of under 60 km and routing that is fully paved with limited road riding, this looped ride is well-suited for all types of cyclists. Take in the beauty of Niagara Region, its rivers and beaches, as well as a
unique ferry jaunt over the Canal, the Port Robinson Ferry.
With double occupancy priced at $199/pp and a maximum of 35 cyclists, these fun recreational rail trail rides and value priced tours sell out early.

Port Robinson Ferry - Niagara
The
Port Robinson Ferry
has carried passengers across the Welland Canal for the past 40 years. O
perating from May to October, this fun little ferry crossing is only available to cyclists and pedestrians, carrying over 8,000 passengers each season.
Conveniently located along the Welland Canal Trail, part of the Niagara Circle Route, just 10km south of Thorold and 8 km north of Welland, this free ferry service is popular with cyclists and provides a way to connect to the Niagara River Recreation Trail.
Recent good news confirms that this service will continue operating for the next decade.

Ready, Set, Ride!
This is our first e-news of the season, a sure sign of spring! While this late spring has many looking up the address of
Wiarton Willie, others have been out crushing pavement and snowy trails for many months now. Whether you've been clocking kilometres or are just dropping off your bike at your bike shop for a tune-up, we are all excited for the coming warmer weather!
And there is certainly lots to be excited about this cycling season! World class tours and events both new and old, more business welcoming cyclists with services and amenities, new and revised maps and resources, multi-modal bike transportation options including shuttle services, trains and ferries and not to forget the natural beauty of Ontario best revealed one pedal stroke at a time.
