Wednesday, April 13: Annual Friends of the Library Spelling Bee 6pm at City Hall. This event
is open to those aged 6 years old through adult, and online registration will go live in the last week of March. For questions about this event, please contact Library Director Jillian Aschliman at [email protected]. No registrations will be accepted over the phone.

Thursday April 14: LeClaire Community Library - Author Gary Moore will visit and discuss "Playing with the Enemy: a baseball prodigy, World War II, and the Field of Broken Dreams", a book about Gene Moore, the author's father, whose professional baseball career was interrupted by World War II. This book was winner of the 2006 Military Writer's Society of America Book of the Year. This program is free and open to all ages. 10 FREE copies of "Playing With the Enemy" are available at the library for the first 10 people who stop by the library to pick them up. Pre-registration is not necessary. This program is hosted by Scott County Reads Together (SCRT), a
collaboration between Bettendorf, Davenport, LeClaire, and Scott County Libraries.

Monday, April 25, 10am: President of the Ladies' Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Francisca
Guilford, from Anchorage, Alaska, along with Penny Hurt, State President of the Iowa VFW Auxiliary, and Travis Holden, the State VFW Commander, will be in LeClaire for a ceremony at the Scott County Freedom Rock. Mayor Ray Allen will be proclaiming April 25, 2016, as "Our Veterans - Now and Forever Day" at the council meeting on April 18 and presenting the proclamation to VFW Auxiliary President Francisca Guilford at the Scott County Freedom Rock on April 25. The Scott County Freedom Rock can be found on the south end of the Levee along the Mississippi River in LeClaire. Please plan to attend this event in honor of our veterans.

To help support their endowment fund, the Friends of the Library have partnered up with Isabel Bloom to create the Green Tree Wall Plaque, on sale for $24, with part of the proceeds going toward the LeClaire Community Library's endowment. If you are interested in purchasing one of these plaques, please contact Becky Pilger at [email protected] or find them at the Library. Those who make a $1000 donation or more to the Library's endowment will receive a complimentary plaque as a thank you for supporting the library. These plaques are available at the Library and at the LeClaire Isabel Bloom store in LeClaire.
