Aloe Analytical Experts Needed for AOAC Methods

Experts in aloe vera analysis are needed to support development of an AOAC International (AOAC) First Action Official Method of Analysis for the testing of aloin in aloe vera ingredients and products. The Call for Methods and the Call for Experts for aloin is live on the AOAC website until Friday, April 29, 2016. Methods must be able to quantitate aloin A and aloin B separately in aloe vera leaf juice and dry juice ingredients, and finished products, as per AOAC SMPR2015.015. If you or a colleague have a method for aloin that you would like considered for AOAC First Action Official Method Status, and/or if you would like to serve on this Expert Review Panel (ERP), please see hereThe ERP for aloin is slated to meet the week of June 6-10, 2016.

AOAC working group slots are also open for the new project on aloe vera polysaccharide measurement. Interested experts can sign up for this new working group here. Conference calls for this working group will begin in early May.

The resulting AOAC methods from these projects will be recognized as official methods for the analysis of these aloe constituents and will support regulatory compliance for this important botanical ingredient.

If you have questions about these projects or if you need more information about the AOAC process, please contact Dawn Frazier, AOAC International, at 301.924.7077 ext. 117 or by email at DFrazier@aoac.org.
