Lion Cub Program
The Miami Valley Council has been approved to participate in the expanded pilot of Lion Scouts, a new program for kindergarten boys.  Research shows that a child's development accelerates at age 4 and 5 - about the time these youngsters begin their formal education in kindergarten. That's also the time when families start looking for after-school activities for their children. While 5-year-olds could join a soccer team or karate studio, they couldn't yet join Scouting.  That's about to change. Parents will welcome a program that introduces Scouting concepts and values to 5-year-olds in a fun, age-appropriate way. The kindergarten-age boys themselves will enjoy exploring the world around them with friends. Lions promises to expand imaginations, spark creativity and amplify fun.  At the end of the Lion year, boys will graduate to Tiger and advance through Cub Scouting.

Did Your Unit's Service Hours Get Recorded?
A service project is a special Good Turn that puts Scout spirit into action. Some Good Turns are big saving a life, helping out after floods or other disasters, recycling community trash, working on conservation projects. But Good Turns are often small, thoughtful acts helping a child cross a busy street, going to the store for an elderly neighbor, cutting back brush that is blocking a sign, doing something special for a brother or sister, or welcoming a new student to your school. Anyone can get involved in a Good Turn. After your unit completes any service project (example Scouting for Food). Don't forget to log the hours on the Journey to Excellence website.
