Threatened with Resurrection The Bishop's Blog: Signs of God's Grace
Threatened with Resurrection

Posted by the Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith on April 6, 2016

Our spiritual ancestors were threatened by Pharaoh's army as they made their way from slavery to freedom. They crossed the Red Sea on dry ground, but the pursuing army was washed away. Their new land was wilderness, where they were threatened by lack of water and food - and not knowing where they were. But God provided: manna came down every day - and when Moses struck rock with his staff, water gushed out.

Forty years later, these same spiritual ancestors were camped on the banks of the Jordan River, waiting to go across to a land "flowing with milk and honey." But they felt threatened and were reluctant to cross over, because while they had heard reports of abundance and freedom on the other side, the people really didn't know what abundance and freedom were like. Marco is a typical, energetic nine-year-old from the suburbs of New Jersey. He has very definite opinions on the current crop of super heroes and he loves to play soccer. But unlike many kids his age, Marco's favorite after school activity is, well, going back to school. Marco is one of 22 children enrolled in Success for All, an after school program hosted by St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Morristown. Read more.

[Episcopal News Service] Forming a monastic community of young adults at Lambeth Palace to embrace a yearlong commitment to prayer, study and service may have been an audacious experiment, but members of its first class say the initiative has been a major triumph and an extraordinary life-changing experience.
