Elementary School Town Hall Meetings

Are you interested in the future of your child's or neighborhood's elementary school and the district? Want to give feedback about what is going well and what might need to be changed?

Join Superintendent Wendy Rubin at each of the elementary schools for a town hall meeting to discuss the current state and the future of Englewood Schools.

The two remaining town hall meetings will be at on the following dates:
  • Bishop Elementary: April 7, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. - also a chance to meet the 2016-2017 principal
  • Charles Hay World School: April 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!

ProStart Students Place Fifth in Competition
This is the second year that Englewood High School has sent a team of students to compete in the ProStart Invitational, a culinary competition held at Johnson & Wales University.

In the competition, a team of four students has one hour to complete a three-course meal using two butane burners. The students must pack and bring all other supplies for the meal from pots and pans, to utensils and ingredients.

Once they start cooking, students can receive no outside help or advice -- even from their instructor.

This year, out of 19 teams competing, the Englewood High School team placed fifth! We are very proud of their hard work and this amazing accomplishment in only the second year of competition.
Cherrelyn Elementary Students Create Living Museum
Learning about historical figures is one thing, but actually becoming one is another!

Earlier in March, second grade students at Cherrelyn Elementary created a living museum of famous Americans. They researched historical figures, and learned enough about them to dress, speak and answer questions in character.

The students worked very hard both on learning as much as they could about the lives of their chosen people as well as perfecting the presentation of the historical figures themselves.

Good job, Cherrelyn!
PBiS Monthly Focus: Routines
Englewood is a PBiS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) district which means that each school is focused on encouraging and upholding positive behavior expectations for students and staff in order to create a supportive school climate. A positive school climate helps students feel safe and supported so they can engage in learning. When families, schools, and communities work together, kids succeed!

Each month, check here for resources and strategies from the district PBiS team. To learn more about PBiS in your child's school, feel free to reach out to teachers and staff!

Monthly focus: The Importance of Routines
Why are family routines so important for kids?   Routines help kids feel safe and keep life from feeling chaotic.  They help take away kids' fears of the "unknown."  Our kids do best when routines are regular, predictable, and consistent.  Here is more information about the importance of reviewing family routines and keeping structure in place in your household!

Facilities Long-Range Planning Committee
The Facilities Long-Range Planning Committe is a group of volunteers consisting of parents, community members, and Englewood Schools staff members who will serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education and district administration in planning future facility use.

The group of about 25 people meets weekly and plans to be prepared to present recommendations to the Board regarding facility use by the May 3 Board meeting.

You can follow the progress of the group by visiting this website: www.englewoodschools.net/facilityplanning.
