HORTICULTURE AT SBA
Clever Minds!
 
Our Horticulture students have been making bird feeders using recycled paper towel tubes.  The bird feeders were sold during lunch on Friday of last week.
 
                                                                  

SPANISH CLASS
Es una Selva en EspaƱol II!
 

It's a jungle out there.  Mrs. Mijlin's  Spanish II class learns the animals of the wild kingdom and  how to describe  them in Spanish.  Everyone agrees they are as "espectacular" in Spanish as they are  in English.
 
 
 


PAWCTION UPDATE

Chances will be sold at lunch in the Cafeteria, in the Pawction Office and  online.    Chances are $10 each  or  3 for $25.
Drawing will be held on April 9, 2016 at the Pawction.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Applications due by March 14th

The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school graduates, and SBA is excited to offer this honor to its scholars! 
Applications were distributed today, Friday, February 26th, to all juniors and seniors eligible to apply for membership in the Saint Macrina Chapter of the National Honor Society at Saint Basil Academy. Applications are due Monday, March 14, 2016 at 3:30 pm in room 20. To be eligible for membership consideration, junior and senior candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.7. Additionally, candidates must meet high standards of leadership, service, and character.  One aspect of service that our SBA students participate in is our Peer Tutoring program.  Each student devotes at least 3-4 hours per month to tutoring her fellow students in a variety of subjects. 
 
SBA CARES LENTEN NEWS
Walk A Mile Soup Supper, March 14th

This simple soup supper to benefit Face to Face Soup Kitchen in Germantown will take place on Monday, March 14th from 5:00 to 7:00.  All SBA students, faculty, and staff, and their families are invited to attend. Admission is $5 (max of $20 per family). 
We are hoping some parents can make soup or dessert for the event. Please email Theresa Hartey at thartey@stbasilacademy.org i f you are able to help.

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID PRESENTATION
Wednesday, March 16th

SBA will be hosting a College Financial Aid  presentation on March 16th at 7pm. All parents, especially parents of junior students are encouraged to attend. The Counseling Office has invited Ms. Fran McKeown (PHEAA representative) and Ms. Meghan Petsko (Associate Dir. Financial Aid, Villanova University and SBA Alum) to present to us that evening.
YOUTH SYMPOSIUM ON THE HOLOCAUST
Payment Due by March 20th
 
Students should return their signed permission slip and $12 to Mrs. Fina by March 20 
for the  39 th  Annual Youth Symposium on the Holocaust.  The Symposium will take place on Tuesday, March 8 th  from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at St. Joseph's University.
GRAND CANYON TRIP
Payment Due by April 1st 
 
There is a change in dates for the trip to the Grand Canyon.  There is still time to sign up!   The dates are June 18 to June 22, 2016.
 
NYC TRIP FOR FRESHMEN AND JUNIOR CLASSES
Payment and Permission Forms Due April 4
 
In celebration of our school's shared Ukrainian and American heritage, this year's freshman and junior classes will be traveling to New York City on April 27 .  This will be an all day trip that will entail visiting Ellis Island in the morning, followed by a tour of the Ukrainian Art Museum (Freshman) and the 9/11 Memorial Museum (Juniors) in the afternoon.  

COLLEGE INTERVIEW DAY
Wednesday, April 13th
   
College Interview Day is Wednesday, April 13, 2016. We will be hosting over 40 colleges and universities. It is a wonderful opportunity for our junior class to meet face to face with College Admissions counselors.


COLLEGE PANEL EVENING
Monday, April 18th

Representatives from 4-5 local colleges and universities will be at SBA to discuss the college admissions process with students and parents. Please join us for an information-filled event.


SPRING MUSICAL
April 22nd- 24th

The Prince is giving a ball!  Put on your glass slippers and enjoy a magical night at the Drama Club production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's  Cinderella.  Mark your calendars for April 22nd & 23rd at 7PM and April 24th at 2PM.     
The Drama Club is looking for prom dress donations for this year's performance.  If you have a prom dress that you would like to donate, please drop them in the auditorium.  Thank you!

SPRING CONCERT
Tuesday, April 26th
 
Our Spring Concert will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 7:00 pm in the Auditorium.  Plan on joining us for a musical evening featuring our Band, String Ensemble, Concert Choir, Madrigals, and Handbells.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT CAMP
Weeks of June 27th, July 5th and July 11th
