PSAT October 14th
The Academy will be hosting the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th for all 10th graders and registered 11th graders. In order to participate, 11th graders must sign up with Ms. Gomez and pay a $15 free (limited fee waivers for qualifying students). This years PSAT will reflect the new SAT. Juniors may also qualify for the National Merit Scholarship based on their scores. There are over 8,600 scholarships being offered this year at a combined value of $43 million. Post the PSAT, students will receive their scores, customized SAT plan, college readiness feedback and other tools. Juniors can also sign up with Ms. Rocio to have an expert review their scores from last year with them and discuss how to best prepare for this years exam.
SAT/ACT Tutoring
It is highly recommended that students take the SAT and/or ACT in the spring of junior year and once again the fall of senior year. The spring SAT is scheduled for March 5th 2016 and the Spring ACT is scheduled for April 9th. To best prepare for these dates, The Academy in partnership with Stepping up Testing Services is offering SAT/ACT tutoring. Tutoring will take place every Saturday between Jan 16th through Feb 27th from 8:30-11:30 AM on campus. The cost is $144 per student. This includes 7 sessions, a test prep workbook, a pre and post  SAT/ACT exam, and a specific student profile. The Academy has committed to paying for half of the cost. We ask that students register and pay the $72 fee by Wednesday, December 16th. Paying in full guarantees a spot in the tutoring program. Students and parents may submit payment to Ms. Rocio.
Volunteer Work
The Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is seeking teen volunteers who can mentor and tutor students at Vista Heritage Charter Middle School. Students must be available to commit to 1-2 months of volunteering, 2-5 times per week. Volunteering looks great when applying to college, a post-sec program, scholarship, internship and/or job. You will gain  skills, gather experience, and obtain a letter of recommendation. If you want to learn more please see Ms. Rocio or attend the informational meeting in Room 2 on Tuesday, September 15th. You can also visit the counseling website or wall for other locations.
Club Rush!
Extra-curricular activities look great when applying to college, a post-secondary program, scholarship, internship and a job. Universities like to see that students are involved at their campus. This demonstrates to them that you will also be involved at their campus.

Club rush is scheduled for September 17th and 18th during lunch. Look for posters and announcements and make sure to join a club!
