Energy Program Details in Mail this Week
Next Round to Begin in June, Passive Opt-in for Most

Residential accounts currently with PSE&G for Supply automatically 'Opted-In', No Action Needed on part of such residents

Montgomery Township is pleased to announce that it will begin a second round of the very popular Montgomery Community Energy Aggregation Program (MCEA) which recently resulted in significant electricity cost savings for MCEA Round 1 participating residents.
The Township conducted a public bid and selected an electrical energy provider for all aggregated residential accounts for an 18-month period with a non-variable rate, starting with each household's June, 2016 meter reading date.
TriEagle Energy, an electric power supplier licensed by the Board of Public Utilities, was selected by the municipality as the qualified supplier with the lowest bid for energy supply. It is estimated that the average participant will save $300 during the contract term compared to current PSE&G rates.  The first link below is to the Information Package containing all the program details, which is being mailed out to all PSE&G supply customers (residential only) today.  It should arrive in residents' mailbox later this week.
This upcoming letter from Mayor Graham has the Montgomery Twp. seal  at top right. It includes on its reverse side a program summary and enclosure sheet of typical FAQs about the program. This letter and its enclosures (Program Information Package) is the same as the posted electronic copy (1st link below).
If you find the rate and terms obtained by the Township to be to your liking, and you are currently signed up with PSE&G for your electric SUPPLY (ie.  you are not currently signed up with a third-party supplier),  NO ACTION IS REQUIRED ON YOUR PART - you will be automatically opted-in to this new round of the energy aggregation program for 18-months starting in June.
The main purpose of the letter is to notify residents that they have the right to NOT participate in the program. The opt-out period will end on   May 4, 2016 .  However, you can opt-out of the program at any time.  If you previously opted-out of the MCEA Round 1 program or have a solar system, your account has been removed from this program and you will not receive this letter.
There will also be a   public meeting   for those with questions on  April 14, 2016   at 6:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the municipal building at 2261 Rt. 206, Belle Mead, NJ 08502.
Please note: A second letter required by state law will be mailed to customers in about a month directly from PSE&G. Its dictated language is generic and some residents have found it to be confusing. Please refer to this week's mailed letter (same as link below) and included contact info for any necessary clarification.
The below links can be found at any time on the Township website on our Energy Aggregation  webpage:
Program Information Package: Letter from Mayor Notifying Residents of 30 Day Opt-Out Period, Program Summary, and Short FAQs - Delivered early April, 2016, 3 pgs. (To be mailed to all residents with PSE&G supply accounts, who will automatically be swept into this discount program.)

April 17 Recycling Fair for Earth Day
Outdoors at McKnight Baseball Complex

Come drop off items for Recycling!

Montgomery Township Environmental Commission and Sustainable Montgomery will organize the  11th Annual Earth Day RECYCLING Fair  on  Sunday, April 17, 2016 from Noon to 3 PM . The event will be held at the  Montgomery (McKnight) Baseball Complex, 52 Reading Boulevard, Belle Mead.

A full list of items which can be brought to be recycled (which is still growing!) can be found at  www.edf.montgomery.nj.us

List of Items to be Recycled at Fair

The focus of this year's Fair has shifted slightly to become a recycling-only event. Residents are invited to drop off metals (e.g. tools, pots & pans, yard furniture); electronics (e.g. printers, computer monitors); and bring any confidential documents for shredding (no 3-ring type binders).  The Somerset County Sheriff's Office will collect unwanted or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications (no needles or sharps will be accepted). Other groups will be on hand to accept gently used clothing; children's books and toys (to benefit the Carolyn Stokes Day Nursery in Trenton); adult & children bicycles (for Boys & Girls Club of Trenton); sneakers & sporting goods (to support Kicks 4 Caribya); markers, highlighters and dry erase markers; wire clothing hangers; Brita filters, printer cartridges (Technician X), and more.  There will also be a canned goods/supply drive to benefit Montgomery Township's Food Pantry.  The Pantry asks for specific donations such as: cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper goods (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper).

"The recycling aspect of our annual Fair is a big hit with the community so we decided to focus exclusively on collections this year. The Fair has attracted as many as a thousand people in recent years," said Mary Reece, chairperson of Montgomery Township's Environmental Commission.

"It's the township's biggest community-wide environmental event.  Last year 3,000 lbs of paper was shredded, 7,120 pounds of metal were recycled, and an astonishing 17,200 pounds of electronics were recycled at the fair!"

"Strong community support for 10 years has helped promote environmentally friendly and sustainable actions in Montgomery," Reece said.
