Principal Update:

At University Park, safety is our #1 priority, and the most important part of my job.  Please help me by remembering to ALWAYS check in with the office whenever you enter the building.  In other maintenance/safety updates, all trees on school property have been trimmed.

DPS has embraced the Colorado Academic Standards, including the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  Our staff continues to work on implementing best-practice instructional strategies across all grade levels in support of CCSS.  Please click DPS Parent Guides to Student Learning to find grade level guides describing major concepts your child will learn as we embrace the Common Core State Standards.

Morning Coffee with Grant:
Throughout the year, I'd like to set some opportunities to meet informally with grade-level parents.  I'll host my first Morning Coffee on Friday, 11/15, from 9:15-10am in the cafeteria for any Kindergarten parents.  No need to RSVP - simply come by for a few minutes, or the entire time, to meet with me and other parents with Kindergarten students at UPark.

PTA News:

Apple Campaign - WE DID IT!  We met and exceeded our match challenge!  This has been our most successful apple campaign ever, and we still have the rest of the school year to accept donations!  Thank you to everyone who donated, or pledged to donate, to the Apple Campaign during our fall drive.  Here are a few special highlights from our drive:
  • We raised $68,317 - about 70% of our $98,000 school grant goal
  • We increased our family participation in the Apple Campaign by 20 families!

Although our biggest push is over, donations are accepted throughout the school year from families and businesses through their matching programs.  Please feel free to email or call Stepahanie Treusein at 720-231-9955 any time during the year with Apple Campaign questions.

A special thanks to Apple Campaign Chair Stephanie Treusein, PTA Treasurer Carol McDaniel, and PTA President Jen Frenkel for their hard work and dedication to UPark!

Thanksgiving Lunch @ UPark!

Mark your calendars!  Thanksgiving lunch will be Tuesday, November 18th.  Parents/siblings and other guests are welcome to join and have lunch that day with their child.  An adult lunch is $4 and non-students are $3. We will also be accepting donations that day for Food Bank of the Rockies.  Please consider your change as a donation to them.  Last year we donated over $300 from your generosity!  If you are planning on attending, please email Jennifer Plesa with the number of adults and children attending.  We will follow the regular lunch schedule this day.
crossing
Do you have spare time?

Would you like to make a few extra dollars each school day?  We have a crossing guard position available before school and after school.  It pays $8 an hour and is perfect for someone in the neighborhood.  Email Principal Varveris if you, or someone you know, is interested.
Thursday Extras
This is where you will find a list of flyers that DPS or approved organizations have asked we pass out to our community.  Simply click on the flyer name to view in its entirety.  Please check outside the office if you need a hard copy.
