Blank Stare x 20 Minutes
We went to the market to purchase some spices from a local vendor.  While waiting, this "KayaYei" girl with baby in tow approached us looking for work.  I was struck by her very flat affect.  Unlike her son who was all smiles, she wore the face of a battle scarred woman.

KayaYei

We were shocked to see the types of loads these "human shopping carts" are asked to carry day in and day out.  A 60-70 pound little girl walked past us with 110 pounds of rice on her head!
Later that same night we visited the market where thousands of these young girls sleep under make shift pieces of plastic to be shielded from the cool and rain.
The "Face" of Africa
Twenty minutes before this picture was taken, Dieu Donnee (her name means "God Gives") was a stranger to me.  Had I not been introduced by our host, she would have been another nameless face among the 1000's in the African marketplace.
   Dieu Donner
Dieu Donnee is an impoverished, hard working, sweet, albino lady in the Accra main market.  She is a spice vendor.
She embodies what Africa is all about.  If you take the time to interact, to ask questions, to show interest..... you will be family for life.
She pulled out stools for us to sit on (African hospitality) and then, out of her own resources (which are meager) she purchased a cold coke for each of us!  People like Dieu Donnee are the hidden joy of Africa!
Dr. Eyra Agudu (right) and two of her board members are moving forward with her dream of building a women's health center in Accra.  It was our pleasure to have spent an entire week with Eyra and many of her associates.
Please join Even Haazer and Three Strands as we pray about future partnerships.
