Westland Lends Helping Hand for the Holiday Season
Westland, MI - The City of Westland is getting into the holiday spirit by lending a helping hand to those in need. The Westland Goodfellows and Embrace Relief now have two boxes for donations at City Hall for the respective causes.

The Westland Goodfellows has a bin now accepting new toys, non-perishable food items, and monetary donations as part of their No Child Without a Christmas initiative. All collections will be distributed to Westland children on December 6 and 7, and donations will be accepted until Friday, December 5.

For a full listing of the toy/food drop-off sites, you can visit the Westland Goodfellows website:

Also at City Hall, Embrace Relief has organized a blanket drive for Syrian and Iraqi refugees who have fled to Turkey because of the erupting violence in that region. The bin at City Hall is now accepting new blankets that will be sent to the refugees, many of whom are children, to keep them warm during the harsh winter months.

Last year, 18,000 blankets were shipped to the region. Only new blankets and monetary donations will be accepted. This drive will run until Saturday, November 22. You can learn more about Embrace Relief at their website:

For donation drop-offs, City Hall is located at 36300 Warren Rd, Westland, MI.

"The City is proud to partner with charities that extend a helping hand, both in our own community and internationally," said Mayor William R. Wild. "The holiday season is a time to be thankful for what we have, and also to give back to those who are less-fortunate, so I encourage everyone who can give to drop-off their donations at City Hall."
