YOUR SUMMER IS GOING TO ROCK!
The School of Rock / Fairfield staff is excited to announce the themes for our signature Rock Performance Program for the Summer 2015 season! With SIX different show themes for this session, we have the right program to get any kid rocking on a local stage by the beginning of the school year. We are now enrolling students age 7-18 on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals!!!

In our ROCK PERFORMANCE PROGRAM, students get the chance to take a weekly 45-minute private lesson with a rock star on our staff, attend a weekly group rehearsal session with other young musicians, and get ready to perform two season-ending shows! Our program gives kids the chance to rock on stage and in life, and was voted BEST MUSIC LESSONS for 2015 in Best of the Gold Coast Connecticut.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE GIG!
Not currently enrolled at School of Rock? Shoot us an email at [email protected] or call us at 203.292.5473 to get more info and to get started!

SPACE IS LIMITED! ENROLLMENT STARTS NOW!
DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

Rehearses Wednesday nights starting June 17, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Performs in late August or September.

ABOUT: This Summer, we're going to dig down deep into THE ROOTS OF ROCK AND ROLL to unearth the blues, gospel, country, rockabilly, and doo wop in their most energetic, raw forms. Join a show full of fun, classic songs performed by immortal rock personalities that paved the way for everything in rock music since.

This is a big genre to tackle! The list of artists include icons and innovators: Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry,
Fats Domino , Carl Perkins, The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many more. Experience a perfect soundtrack to Summer with the sounds of the players that changed music, lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, and language from the late-1940s through the present!

This show is an absolute essential for any aspiring rock musician of any experience level. These short, finely-polished singles exemplify innovative yet basic songwriting forms that can hone the skills of beginners or take more advanced students back to the basics. With awesome and diverse vocal stylings, fat piano parts, cool rockabilly guitar, and a strong, driving backbeat provided by the bass and drums, this is a great show for any instrument!

ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS WELCOME!

Rehearses Thursday nights starting June 25, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Performs in late August or September.

ABOUT: Join a battle of two bands' playlists that are diverse, quirky, nearly undefinable, and unquestionably iconic: DEVO vs. TALKING HEADS! Both bands formed in the mid-1970s and developed loyal fan groups with their mixtures of punk rock, new wave, art rock, and pop music. This was only increased by stage performances and music videos that made them instantly recognizable and extremely influential. Get weird, have fun, and play rock this summer with Devo and Talking Heads!

Songs on this show include: Psycho Killer, Burning Down the House & Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads, Whip It , Uncontrollable Urge & Mongoloid by Devo, and many other classics!

While this show is open to students of all experience levels, these songs are great exercises in band communication, tight arrangements, high energy, and stage presence. Students will work on the energy and stamina required for punk rock, tight interlocking grooves with great independent parts, reproducing fun recorded effects, and even dive into the occasional odd time signature. It's all here for a great Summer of rock!

ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS WELCOME!

Rehearses Friday nights starting May 29, 2015 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Performs in late August or September.

ABOUT: The formula is simple for this show featuring modern rock icons: SOUNDGARDEN + RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE = AUDIOSLAVE! Not only are each of these bands important in their own right, but they are linked together by their band line-ups. The lead singer of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, joined Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk of RATM to form Audioslave in 2001 and release material influenced by this meshing of styles. Now you can play the seminal grunge rock of Soundgarden, the hip-hop induced revolutionary metal of Rage, and the super-group alternative rock sound of Audioslave in one great show!

The list of recognizable songs on this list is almost inexhaustible, but tracks include: Black Hole Sun, Spoonman & Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden, Killing in the Name, Bulls on Parade & Testify by RATM, and Like a Stone & Cochise by Audioslave.

This show is going to be a fun yet challenging addition to the Summer for any of our experienced students! Vocalists will have fun attempting the soaring, clear vocals of Cornell mixed with Zach de la Rocha's passionate, charged delivery. Guitarists and bassists benefit from driving and concise riffs, perfectly written parts, and the influence of tone-altering effects. And drummers get to work on laying down hard rock grooves to keep it all together. Have fun, folks!

FOR INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED STUDENTS!

Rehearses Saturdays starting June 20, 2015 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Performs in late August or September.

ABOUT: SANTANA is a latin rock band founded in San Francisco during the late 1960s by Carlos Santana as a vehicle for his compositions and guitar style. Their performance at Woodstock in 1969 propelled them into the public view, which was followed by three extremely successful releases over the next two years. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the group has also won eight Grammy Awards.

Play the tracks that brought a brand new flavor to rock music from the 1960s on with tracks like: Oye Como Va, Evil Ways, Soul Sacrifice, Black Magic Woman, Smooth, and Hope You're Feeling Better! There is plenty of music in Santana's catalog for a Summer of rock.

The challenges of this show are both individual and group-based as students try to duplicate Santana's brilliant guitar riffs and tone, deep and extensive percussive textures, silky smooth bass grooves, crucial organ and piano flourishes, and great vocals in two languages! Sound like fun? Learn a little latin flavor this summer!

STUDENTS NEED SOME EXPERIENCE TO JOIN!

Rehearses Saturdays starting June 13, 2015 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Performs in late August or September.

ABOUT: In THE BATTLE FOR NEW JERSEY, students will delve into the repertoires of two Jersey natives and rock icons: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN and BON JOVI! Each of these contenders are influential and extremely popular in their own right, with songs that perpetually dominate the radio airwaves. Springsteen manipulated folk, blues, and country to develop catchy yet complex heartland rock. Bon Jovi was influenced by many rock forefathers and used exceptional songwriting abilities to create music that spans the pop-metal and hard rock genres. Both are best-selling artists worldwide, and they have over 20 Grammy Awards between them. Now let's battle for Jersey!

Check out some of the hits that you'll get to perform in this great mash up of rock giants: Born to Run, Thunder Road, Glory Days & Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) by Bruce Springsteen and Wanted Dead or Alive, Livin' on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name & Runaway by Bon Jovi.

The collective playlists of these two artists combine to provide a diverse set of challenges for our young musicians. Guitarists get great chord-based songwriting mixed and extremely challenging solos. Drummers get complex backbeats and driving full-force rock grooves. Vocalists get the soaring range of Bon Jovi mixed with the guttural, emotional  textures of Springsteen. Keyboard players get authentic rock & roll piano and organ mixed with deep synthesizer parts. It's all here! And to duplicate Clarance Clemons' necessity in The E Street Band -- sax players welcome!
