Kundalini Yoga Horoscope: October 20-26, 2014

Monday begins with the Moon in Virgo. The emphasis is on the details. Take care of the small stuff. Success comes when you make the time to perfect all those little imperfections that you often just skim over. At the same time, however, watch out for too much self-criticism. In your effort to be perfect, there is also a tendency to be too hard on oneself - and on others.

Mantra for Love: Sopurkh

There is a beautiful practice in the tradition of Kundalini Yoga called the So Purkh or Sopurkh that involves the recitation of a certain mantra 11 times a day. I was also in a relationship situation that needed some serious overhaul. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I added my name to the list of participants, got my copy of Nirinjan Kaur's recitation, and started chanting.

Kundalini Yoga Kriya: How Does it Work?

Kundalini Yoga has thousands of kriyas. A kriya consists of asana (posture), pranayama (breath), mantra (chanting), bandhas (locks) and mudra (hand position). The kriya uses these elements in rhythm to create a change in the body and the mind.

Ask the Yogini: So Purkh

This is a complicated question to answer. Certainly, there is an effect that the energy of the mantra has in the space around you. It creates an energy field that has an observable impact on the way a space feels. Consider the works of Dr. Masaru Emoto on water; when putting a word on a bottle of water, the water picks up the vibration of the word. If the word is "peace", the ice crystal formed is beautiful and symmetrical. If the word is "hate", the ice crystal formed by the same water becomes twisted and ugly.
