Medicare Enrollment Day - Residents approaching the age of 65 and that are looking to enroll in Medicare, can stop by the Friendship Center on Monday, October 20 for their annual Medicare Enrollment Day.  This is a great opportunity for those looking to enroll in the health care program to learn what you need to sign up.  Also, if you are looking to change your Medicare option, that information will be available.  The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and will run all day.

 

Monday Madness - Westland golfers should  check out Monday Madness at the Westland Municipal Golf Course. Every Monday, noon to 5 pm, the course has a lunch and golf special: 9 Holes of Golf, Electric Cart, and food - $20 per golfer and $15 for seniors,  The golf course is located at 500 S. Merrimen.

 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

-The Disability Concerns Committee will meet on Monday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the NEW City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
-The City Council meeting will be held on Monday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the NEW City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
-The Housing Commission will meet on Tuesday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.
-The Westland Youth Assistance Board meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the NEW City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
-The Downtown Development Authority will meet on Thursday, October 23 at 12:00 p.m. at the NEW City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

  

 

Norwayne Subdivision Historic District Marker Dedication - Mayor William R. Wild invites residents to join him for the Norwayne Subdivision Historic Marker Dedication on Thursday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m.  The event will be held at Jefferson-Barnes Elementary, located at 32150 Dorsey.

 

 

Westland Farmer's Market Halloween Happenings - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the New Famers Market Pavilion, located in Cental City Park at 1901 Carlson.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.  This Thursday, October 23 will be a special Halloween themed event.  There will be trick or treating and a costume contest with winners receiving a $15 Target gift card.  Every contestant will get a treat.  This is also the final day of the regular 2014 Market season so stop by and stock up on all of your favorites.

Friday Night Movie - The Westland Library will have their weekly Friday Night Movie on Friday, October 24.  This wee's movie is "Neighbors," which is about a couple with a newborn baby who face unexpected difficulties after they are forced to live next door to a fraternity house.  Snacks and refreshments are provided on a donation basis.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will start at 7:00 p.m.

 

Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back.  Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents.  The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident.  Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop.  The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.

 

Zumbathon - Join the Friendship Center and the Compassionate City Initiative in their Zumbathon on Saturday, October 25.  The Zumbathon will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will benefit the Compassionate City Initiative which helps local non-profit organizations.  The Friendship Center is located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.

 

Norwayne Octoberfest - The Norwayne Community Citizens Council invites residents to join them for their Octoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  There will be pumpkins, face painting and lunch provided.  Residents will also have the opportunity to meet "Friday" and "Narco" the K9 police dogs.  There is no cost to partake in any activities.  The event will be held at the Dorsey Center, located at 32715 Dorsey.

 

SAVE THE DATE - WESTLAND CITY HALL OPEN HOUSE - The move is complete! The City of Westland has moved its municipal offices into the new Warren Road location (the former Circuit City). Now, the City Administration invites residents and their friends and family to a special Dedication Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Following the dedication ceremony, you will be able to trick or treat while touring the new state-of-the-art building.  Don't miss out on the New Westland City Hall Dedication Ceremony, followed by an Open House and Trick or Treating: Monday, October 27. Children are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes for the event.  Join Mayor William R. Wild, City Council, department heads, and other City dignitaries for this special evening that will be fun for the whole community!
