Hundreds Come Out to Dedicate the New City Hall

The 10th largest city in Michigan with a population of more than 84,000 people has a new City Hall.

Dedicated on October 27, hundreds of people packed the entrance for the ceremony that included a message from the Mayor.

Speaking at the New City Hall dedication ceremony, Mayor Bill Wild said, "People often ask me what is my proudest moment as Mayor and I can honestly say this is my proudest moment. This building is long over due. This building, in the heart of our Shop and Dine district, is a game changer for the city."

Meanwhile, Bishop Luke McClendon from Christ Temple Apostolic Church, a 35-year Westland resident said, "No disrespect to previous Mayors but the past seven years with Mayor Wild has been the best years we have lived here in Westland. Congratulation to you Mayor and your staff on the beautiful completion of this edifice."

Resident Ashe' Lewis sang "America the Beautiful" prior to Westland Police transporting the flag from the old building to the new site.

"Inside every community are these hidden gems, residents with enormous talent, and I want to thank Ashe for sharing her talent with us," said Wild.

The New City Hall -- located on Warren Road in the city's "Shop and Dine" district -- is a 64,000 square foot facility.

The building enabled the city to consolidate departments under one roof:

Mayor's Office

Clerk's Office

Assessing Department

Building Department

Department of Public Service

Economic Development Department

Finance Department

Information Technology Department

Planning Department

WLND, the City's Cable TV Studio
