The Mission Experience
The hardest part...

We asked Fernando Espinoza to share with us a little bit about his experience in Honduras in November.

I have spent countless hours praying and reflecting on what I had experienced during my mission trip to Honduras. It is not enough to say that this particular mission exceeded my expectations. Before the trip I would pray for The Holy Spirit to come to me and that God would use me as His tool.I wanted to find away to show the kids God's unconditional love for them and just how special each and every one of them is. I was NOT expecting to be the one on the receiving end of so much Love and appreciation. From the moment we arrived to the day we said our goodbyes, I was surrounded by 43 smiling eager young faces, just trying to soak all the love I could give them.

I was honored to hear them sharing their personal stories. These stories were the reason I left Honduras feeling like I was the one who benefited the most from the trip. These kids have shown me what it looks like to have true personal strength and perseverance. Not surprisingly, friendships were soon built. Nothing could have prepared me for the hardest part, to walkaway while watching tears flowing from the beautiful faces, faces that I will never forget.

Katrina Villarreal shares what it's meant to her family to sponsor a child in Honduras

We were the first family to sponsor a child, actually 2, then 3 kids from COPPROME through Friends of Los Ninos.  We started with sweet Alan... His sweet smile and loving spirit touched my heart, but more so, that of my teenage son who had made his first trip to Honduras that Summer.  When we started the sponsorship program, I thought he'd want one of the teenagers he'd gotten very close to, but instead, he immediately thought of who needed it most.  We have 12 godchildren in the US and decided to sponsor Alan in honor of all of our godchildren, as an example of serving others that Christ calls us to do.  Our next trip, there was a new girl, Julissa, who had a horrific story on why she was there, she just needed someone to tell her she was loved.  My son, kept calling her, Hermanita (little sister)... and so it continued.  She is my sweet Honduran daughter. The relationships we build through letters, Skyping with our younger kids during the visits, and we've been blessed to visit each year, with our two oldest boys, have developed into a lasting bond.  These sweet children are part of our family.  My kids talk about their Honduran brother and sisters, our Godchildren see pictures of how they've grown, and want to go to meet them in person.  The FOLN Padrino program takes a simple sponsorship program to a personal level, touching the lives of the sponsor families just as much as the children we support.

Letters and small gifts can be sent with the June trip.  More information will be in the Q1 2015 Newsletter.  Watch for more information on sending letters and Skyping with the kids!  They are so excited to see their sponsors live and be able to ask questions.

QuPaso Con Los Nios Program

New Program about Life Choices
We were excited to see the first of the new program being launched at COPPROME while we were visiting in November.  The kids are on their break from the end of November through January.  During this vacation time, the "QuPaso Con Los Nios" program will work with the kids at COPPROME, Monte de Olivos, and the two tutoring centers.

The program helps kids make good life choices, with everything from nutrition, family values, and spirituality.  The program also provides a nutritious snack for the kids participating in the program.  We are thrilled to have the Diocese of Austin's Ashes to Easter Grant to enable us to kick-off this program for the 2015 school year.

Christmas Party at COPPROME

Joy to Their World!
Visiting COPPROME is a fantastic experience no matter the time of year, but the November trip is special because we get to watch the kids open the Christmas gifts that have been gathered especially for them. This year, each child was granted his or her wish, thanks to the [what's the name of the tree thing and who sponsored it?].

Your Gifts to the COPPROME Staff
It's important that we thank you all for your donations toward providing a meaningful bonus to our COPPROME staff.  We were able to give all staff, from the groundskeepers to the director a $50 USD bonus.  This was huge and the staff were extremely appreciative.
