Dear Subscriber and Valued Reader

GFMT into Milling and Grain: The big news here is the decision we have taken to publish GFMT every month from January 2015 and to re-brand the magazine 'Milling and Grain' in January. After careful thought we have decided to shorten our title, revert to our 'Milling' roots (we were published as 'Milling' for the first 90 years) while emphasising the importance of the grain supply chain and retaining our unique coverage of the feed sector which we have reported upon for over 50 year. Our current edition (September-October 2014) shows the new logo and has a full timeline of our history from 1891 along with key industry events over that period.

We are also pleased to report that Mark Cornwell of Kansas in the USA has joined our parent company. Mark can be contacted on his new email address: [email protected]. Learn more about Mark and our plans by reading the editorial we have both prepared for the latest edition of GFMT - soon to be called Milling and Grain.

For those looking forward to next year, 'Milling and Grain' will be working with The 2nd Rice Milling Expo from February 06-08 in Karnal, India. GFMT/Milling and Grain is supporting this event and would welcome millers to visit us at the event. We are also supporting the millers event in Turkey called IDMA. This is one of the most important events for rice and flour millers and takes place from April 23-26, 2015 in Istanbul.

For UK milling industry suppliers GFMT is working with UKTAG to offer support for those companies wishing to exhibit at Rice Milling Expo and IDMA. We are hosting a two-and-a-half-hour seminar in London on Monday November 24, 2014 at The Farmers Club (from 13:00-15:30) to review these two events and outline support available for companies registerd in the UK. There arel imited invitations available so please let me know if you would like to attend.

Call for speakers: 'The Global Milling Conference' will join with us to bring you a truly milling focused one-day conference under the GRAPAS banner during the Victam Exhibition in Kln, Germany on June 11, 2015. Watch this space for details of the program and how to register. Please mark your diaries to ensure you put aside the time to come to the GRAPAS Exhibition and Conference from June 9-11, 2015.

Many congratulations to VIV for its great success in China at the end of September with VIV China 2014 in Beijing. We were fortunate to be in Beijing for the Aquatic China 2014 event which proceeded the exhibition where we had a stand to distribute GFMT and International Aquafeed magazines.

Our staff have been very busy this past month or so with events such as JTIC in France and the World Nutrition Forum in Munich, Germany. We'll be reporting on both events in our last edition for 2014 in which we will look back and celebrate some of the most popular features GFMT has published before we move to Milling and Grain for our January 2015 edition.

We will also be busy over the next month or so attending EuroTier in Hanover, Germany from November 11-14, 2014 and  IAOM Middle East Africa from December 3-6, 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Finally, in 2015, we will be publishing six issues throughout the year in each of the following languages - Spanish, Arabic and Turkish. Let me know if you would like to sign-up for a subscription to one of these language editions, which will be compilations of the two editions of the latest English versions of Milling and Grain.

Cargill's animal nutrition business announced its Provimi™ Aloapur product was presented an Innov'Space award today at the 2014 SPACE conference, the second largest animal production trade show in the world.

Judges honored Aloapur, a patented, bio-based animal feed additive that has demonstrated significant improvements in growth and feed conversion in poultry and turkey production in suboptimal conditions, as an innovation in poultry feed.

Aloapur is based on lactylates, which in vitro results show are capable of inducing a controlled shift in gastrointestinal microflora.  Adding it to feed has proven to work consistently to improve the performance of poultry in suboptimal conditions resulting from environmental circumstances.

The efficacy of Aloapur lactylates was demonstrated during trials with broilers subject to challenging conditions: growth performance was improved by up to 9 percent. Alopapur, marketed under Cargill's Provimi PROMOTE™ range of additives, was developed in partnership with Corbion, a company that specializes in the development of high performance bio-based products made from renewable resources.

"Modern poultry production faces many challenges that can compromise bird performance -  including a dynamic global market and consumers demanding a more prudent use of antibiotics- and the use of lactylates in poultry feeds is an exciting new concept in animal nutrition," said Michel Richet, Provimi brand poultry director in France at Cargill.

"This first-of-its-kind technology offers a promising, innovative nutritional solution and we're proud to be honored for it with the Innov'Space award."

There were 166 entries presented to the jury, composed of experts from technical institutes, INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property) and the Chambers of Agriculture, as well as livestock journalists and farmers, and Aloapur was one of 49 products deemed worthy of the Innov'Space label.

*Aloapur is a registered trademark of Purac Biochem BV.
