Swing for the Girls - Tell all of your friends!!!
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year for The First Tee of Greater Sacramento and we need your help to make it successful!

EWGA members and their friends and family will form threesomes and the fourth will be a girl from The First Tee organization. This is a great opportunity to watch young girls from The First Tee interact, play golf and learn from their First Tee experiences.

Come out and enjoy the experience of playing golf with our up and coming stars of tomorrow!  All levels of golfers (women and men!) are welcome -- this event is all about fun!!

Details:

  • Sunday, May 31.
  • At Morgan Creek Golf Club in Roseville.
  • If you would like to play with anyone in particular, indicate their names when you register - just remember that it is only 3 adults in each group.
  • There will be a Barbeque Buffet following golf, and we will be auctioning and raffling lots of great rounds of golf and maybe a few other things too (see below), so bring your checkbook or credit cards!! Proceeds benefit girls of The First Tee, so be generous!
  • Included in the fee are: greens fee, cart, range balls, and barbecue.
The Auction and Raffle:  This is where we need help!

It would be wonderful if members would be willing to donate items for the auction or raffle.  It doesn't have to be golf related, so think "outside of the box" and, please, let us know if you can help.  Help us make this a great event for the girls!  If you can help, please contact Linda Reid. She'll put you in contact with the right person.

Games People Play...The LIST is here!

Pam Katros, our Director of Golf Events and Activities, recently taught a great clinic, "Golf Formats and the Games People Play".  Pam explained the different tournaments and competitions on this year's calendar.  She also did a wonderful presentation on the different golf games, many of which will be played in this year's leagues and play days.  We have an extensive list of "games" and how they are played.  Click here to see it or go to the Golf Education section of the Website.

We hope you will sign up for an event format you've never played before.  We guarantee you will have lots of fun!

Treadway Makes "Bad Lies" Easy
by Nancy Lyons
On Saturday, May 2, five EWGA members and one guest attended the EWGA clinic "Bad Lies Made Easy" and learned to hit these tough shots like the pros.

Steve Treadway, Master Teaching Professional at Lincoln Hills Golf Club, put the group through the paces. He taught how to make short chip shots when the ball is buried in the fringe, longer pitch shots over bunkers, and shots from the bunker participants said they wouldn't have believed they could make. They even learned how to hit onto the green from the edge of the bunker - with their backs to the green!

From the chipping area the class progressed to the range where it practiced from uphill, downhill and sidehill lies and hitting out from under the low-hanging branches of trees. Steve stressed the importance of balance, stance and club selection in these "bad" situations.

Finally, as an unexpected bonus, he checked swings and offered individualized and valuable tips.

In the end, the "bad lies" didn't seem so bad after all and the students came away with a new found confidence in their ability to handle these challenges on the course. Many thanks to Steve for an outstanding clinic.

In the group shot upper right are: Tammy Pinnick, Steve Treadway, Rashida Lelani, Denise Pulver, Kathy Tejada, and Eli Flores.

Directory Survey
We have not heard from 60 of you about whether you want to receive a paper copy of the membership directory.  If you have not taken the survey, we would appreciate it if you would do so by Wednesday, May 13. As our membership has increased so has the cost of printing and mailing a paper directory.  Many of you like having a paper version and that's okay, we just need to know how many to print.  The survey link was sent May 7.  If you can't find the link, please let Theresa know and she will send you the link.  We can't include it here because the responses will be anonymous and we need to know who wants a paper directory.
