Water Seminar Series

The University of Nebraska's spring water seminar series kicks off this week. The first lecture, "Ground Water Quality in Nebraska," will be presented by Marty Link, associate director of the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. The series is co-sponsored by the Nebraska Water Center and UNL's School of Natural Resources.

U.S. Water Partnership Call for Exemplar Water Technologies
The U.S. Water Partnership is seeking information on a range of proven, innovative water technologies that will be useful in addressing key global water challenges. The information will be used to recommend U.S. technologies to be showcased at an event at the U.S. State Department in Washington, DC on March 21.
The selected technologies will be featured in front of senior business leaders, U.S. government officials, the news media and civil society leaders through a series of "ignite" presentations and a "marketplace" exhibit. Attending technology providers would also be offered the opportunity to consult with U.S. government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export-Import Bank of the U.S. and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, and to discuss existing U.S. government programs to support commercialization and export assistance.

Regional planning involves coordination among multiple jurisdictions and civic groups for a shared geographic space. Urban and rural problems that require coordination among local, state, or tribal governments across jurisdictional boundaries include river corridor and watershed conservation, economic development, urban growth management, protected area management, ethical conflicts, and more. Collaborative and consensus-based approaches are increasingly popular, but many factors affect the outcomes. This course gives an overview of different types of institutions and approaches to regional planning and governance, as well as a theoretical framework for assessing the feasibility of structural and collaborative approaches for specific conditions and contexts.
