Collaborative Conversations Two Groups K-5; 6-12

The Common Core State Standards for Speaking and Listening require students to participant in collaborative conversations about grade-level topics and texts. This workshop will provide teachers with knowledge and resources to implement meaningful discourse practices and foster student intereactions to develop disciplinary knowledge, challenge thinking, and push students to use the complex language of Common Core standards. Participants will learn:

What collaborative conversations are and why they are important to students' success
How collaborative conversations are addressed in Calfornia's Common Core State Standards
How to teach the structures, skills, and language required to support all students, including English Language learners, in collaborative conversations
