New Beginnings is a weekend retreat for students in grades 6-8. The program begins at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and continues through to 4 p.m. on Sunday. During the weekend, participants meet peers from across the diocese, enjoy skits, listen to talks, and participate in small group activities and discussions. These activities focus on self, friends, parents, siblings, school, God's love, prayer and the church. Free time is built in for youth and sponsors to have an opportunity to fellowship with their newfound friends. Participants of New Beginnings may attend as many weekends as they choose throughout their middle school years. Participants are expected to be at New Beginnings for the entire time of the program.
New Beginnings #10 will be held at St. James, Birmingham.

Nightwatch: Detroit was conceived to show our participants just a tiny bit of the grand and awesome nature of the God who loves us constantly, completely and unconditionally.
The theme for Nightwatch: Detroit 2015 is "God's abundance in a 'Hunger Games' world". This overnight lock-in at the Cathedral in Detroit will give you a chance to explore the abundance of God's grace and love and contrasting it to a world that says only one can succeed.

Happening is a retreat weekend "for youth" "by youth" that allows young people (grades 9-12) to explore their relationships with Jesus, each other and the world.
Concentrating closely on the person and teachings of Jesus Christ, Happening gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve the church. What's more, it provides a means to continue the Christian formation process, which is just begun in the three-day program. And it is lots of fun!
Happening begins on a Friday at 6 p.m. and goes until 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Participants are expected to be at Happening the entire time. The Dioceses of Michigan and Eastern Michigan share in this ministry for young people.
Go to: http://www.edomi.org/yaya/happening/ for more information, a downloadable flyer and to register.

General Convention is the main gathering of the Episcopal Church, which occurs every 3 years. The General Convention in 2015 will be held in Salt Lake City, UT from June 25- July 3. This event is not like E.Y.E. or a youth event, and requires a commitment to operating in an adult environment and learning about the intricacies of how the Episcopal Church governs itself.
The more involved you are with your church, the more likely you are to stay involved as you get older. At General Convention, you can see the "who, what, when, where and why" behind the self-governing process of the Episcopal Church - and experience the abundant faith and love.
We will be traveling to Salt Lake City by airplane and attending the General Convention from Thursday, June 25 to Tuesday, June 30th. This excursion is open to those who have completed the 8th grade (summer 2015) through the age of 22. The cost will be $550/ person. There is a mandatory orientation on Saturday, May 30th at Trinity Episcopal Church, Belleville from 1pm - 4pm.
If you are interested in applying, go to: http://www.edomi.org/yaya/genconvexcursion/ to download the application. The deadline to apply is May 1st.

On our Annual Mission Experience we will be heading to the Leech Lake Reservation in upper Minnesota. We will meet a host of different community friends with unique backgrounds and rich stories about the Leech Lake area. Our group will serve by assisting with home improvement projects, children's programs and community gardens. In the evenings we will have the opportunity to visit Norway Beach in the Chipewa National Forest, learn about Native American culture and spirituality from an Ojibwa perspective, participate in a scavenger hunt around Cass Lake and experience a community cookout.
During half the week, we will lead Bible lessons, games, reading time or crafts with community children. During the other half of the week we will serve through simple work projects such as yard work, painting or cleaning. Additionally, some of us will lead an afternoon sports camp for youth in the community ages 11-14 for the entire week.
The dates of Camp Compassion are July 4-11, 2015. The cost is $550/person. There are limited spaces available for this trip.
To secure your spot, please go to: www.edomi.org/yaya/camp-compassion
