United Pres
November, 2014
H. U. Westermeyer reminds us, "The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving." Gratitude is a lens through which we see the world and our place in it as miraculous gifts from God. When we live with thanksgiving, every experience is a way for God to reveal Himself and His purpose for our lives. Our challenges are an opportunity to rely on God more fully.  The answers to our prayers are blessings to be celebrated.

Join us on Wednesday, November 26, at 7 p.m. for a special Thanksgiving Service in the sanctuary to be followed by cider and pie in Fellowship Hall.  Begin your Thanksgiving weekend with your community of faith praising the One who makes all things possible.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Jean

UNITED PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

The United Presbyterian Women are having a continental breakfast and guest speaker on Tuesday, November 4th. Tim Schuler, the state apiarist with the NJ Department of Agriculture had planned to come speak to us on October 7th, but had to cancel due to a family emergency. He has rescheduled his presentation for November 4th. Tim will be sharing his experiences in Malawi, Africa where he participated in a project to teach beekeeping as a way for the people there to earn money.  The UPW has supported the mission group, Villages in Partnership, which also works with people in Malawi to help them become self supporting.   Tim has lots of slides and first hand stories from his two trips about the people and the conditions in which they live.  We are sure Tim's presentation will be very interesting and informative.

On November 4th, the continental breakfast will start at 9:30 am followed by Tim's presentation from 10:00-11:00 am and then the UPW business meeting from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon. All women are invited to this special event. The breakfast will be free and those women who do not want to stay for the UPW business meeting may leave after Tim's program. You do not need to register for this event - just come if you can!

Preliminary Pledge Report

Pledges for the 2015 United Presbyterian Church Budget have been coming in since our Stewardship Dedication Sunday on Oct. 26. Based on 2015 pledges to-date it is exciting to see an upward trend for those who also pledged in 2014. Those of you who have not yet had the opportunity to pledge for 2015 please prayerfully consider your pledge to the 2015 LOVE GIVES campaign. Together  we can support Christ's work so much more effectively than we can alone.

November Mission Spotlight

Food Pantry
This month all the funds that are contributed to Mission will be donated to the Pearson Memorial United Methodist Church Food Pantry.  At Thanksgiving, when we are so grateful for the bounty we have received from God's hand, it is especially meaningful for us to give to those for whom hunger is a daily concern.  Please give generously!

Join the Deacons on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 9 a.m. to help decorate the church for the Advent and Christmas season.  "Many hands make light the work," as John Heywood famously said.  Spend a few hours among friends in the Spirit of Christmas and beautify the sanctuary at the same time.
