Panasonic Lumix GH4 Review (Gary Adcock)

4K video is nothing new.  We've had presentations in past about RED, Sony, Blackmagic, and Arri cameras or workflows.  Now comes the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4.  This DSLR-sized camera is seriously more powerful than your run of the mill camera.

First and foremost, this camera shoots full 4K 4096x2160 video at 24fps.  It also has 10-bit output via HDMI, 4/3" sensor, and more for less than $1,700.  Gary Adcock of Studio 37 will share with us his thoughts on this amazingly small but versatile camera, and how it can work for us.

The Perfect Showreel (Brian Sarfatty)

Has your showreel gotten a bit dusty? Can you think of a billion reasons to put off updating it? Don't even know where to start? What makes a good
showreel, anyway? How do you impress people with your abilities and contain a vast career in a few short minutes of footage? Can you show the work you do for other people and claim it as your own? Do showreels even really matter anymore when it comes to getting work?  We'll discuss all these questions and more, and collaboratively get over the hurdles and on the way to updating those reels.

For the past fourteen years, Brian Sarfatty has been cutting video for the corporate, broadcast, government, education, and non-profit sectors. He spent much of the early 2000s working both stateside but also in the New Zealand broadcast industry, where he worked on several lifestyle and documentary television shows about food, sports, traditional culture, and social issues. Brian returned from New Zealand in 2010 and formed Perfect Fit Post as his freelance editing business, and now works with small video production companies and independent producers around Chicago. He specializes in crafting meaningful stories for non-scripted documentary-style work. In addition to freelance editing, Brian has taught youths, adults, and college students a variety of filmmaking skills at CANTV, Flashpoint Academy, and the Field Museum.

Capsule Media Safeguards Production and Post with AJA Technology

Across a range of content for broadcast, live-events, commercials and films, Miami-based Capsule Media has a reputation for high-quality production and post services. The efforts of the studio, which was founded in 2002, have paid off in spades, as network juggernauts across the U.S., Europe and Latin America - including PBS, Discovery Channel and Univision - regularly turn to Capsule Media for production needs. Company CEO and Executive Producer Pascal Jacquelin, who oversees each project, draws heavily on the reliability of AJA technology to ensure seamless workflows throughout the life cycle of each show.

"I've always loved AJA gear, because it's easy to use and you can rely on it," he said. "The developers are so dialed into our needs in the field, and that shows through in every product. Their support team is also helpful when you need them most, so you never feel alone."

AJA gear is at play both in the studio and out in the field to help Capsule Media complete a diverse range of projects ranging from "Shark Week" documentaries to a PBS mini-series about legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones. The studio's equipment arsenal includes AJA Io XT Thunderbolt™ enabled professional video I/O devices, Ki Pro digital recorders, KONA 3G and KONA LHi capture and playback cards and HD10DA Mini-Converters. An extensive collection of cameras - including RED SCARLETs, SONY EX3s and DSLRs - is also at the team's disposal. For documentaries or larger film projects, Jacquelin often rents ARRI ALEXAs or other digital cinema cameras.
