Feeling generous? There are two simple and easy ways you can make a difference and help our fight for clean water in the NY/NJ Harbor Estuary.

Choose Amazon Smile for your online shopping needs and Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase price to NY/NJ Baykeeper at no cost to you. It's the same great Amazon, with an added bonus of giving! When you log on to AmazonSmile, just choose NY/NJ Baykeeper or Raritan Baykeeper, Inc as the charity of your choice and shop!

Want more ways to give? Year-end giving to NY/NJ Baykeeper just became simpler with the this year's Jersey Give Back Guide. All donations made to NY/NJ Baykeeper go directly to the organization. The Jersey Give Back Guide is available through mid-January. Learn more at www.JerseyGiveBackGuide.org.

Our work would not be possible without our generous supporters.

  • $50 buys 50,000 baby oysters to be grown in our aquaculture facility.
  • $75 pays for the fuel for a boat patrol.
  • $100 buys a pair of waders for volunteers to help clean rivers.
  • $1,500 covers the appraisal costs on a piece of land that would otherwise not be preserved.

Thank you for your generosity and support!

Happy Holidays from all of us at NY/NJ Baykeeper!

annThanks for Supporting our 25th Anniversary Celebration!

Can Newark, NJ benefit from green infrastructure? Newark DIG (Doing Infrastructure Green) is a collaboration of groups working towards making green infrastructure Newark's first line of defense in managing stormwater (known also as rainwater). Newark DIG and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program would like to know your thoughts on the needs of the community. The survey is part of a research study conducted by the RCE Water Resources Program and participation is voluntary and anonymous. To participate in the survey, click here. Oyster Volunteers!

I wanted to take an opportunity to thank you all for your hard work this past year.  Our EcoVolunteer program boasted a second successful year, and this could not have happened without your support and love of oysters, ecology, and our Hudson-Raritan Estuary.

We are always looking for ways to improve the program.  If you have a spare moment, I would sincerely appreciate if you can take our short survey:

This will allow us to apply for future funding, organize more events, and increase our EcoVolunteer program.  Any other comments you have that aren't on the survey, you can email me directly

I hope all is well with you, and feel free to email me!

Cheers!

pumpinHelp Us Keep on Pumpin'

NY/NJ Baykeeper's pumpout program aims to reduce the amount of raw sewage entering our waterways by offering free boat pumpouts. From May 11 - October 25, the Raritan Bay pumpout boat serviced 231 boats in Staten Island , Tottenville and Great Kills, 291 boats in the Keyport Harbor, 151 boats in Atlantic Highlands and Sandy Hook Bay. 16,450 gallons of raw sewage from Raritan Bay was collected. In Jamaica Bay, 483 boats were pumped for an approximate total of 7,500 gallons of waste. That's a whopping total of 23,950 gallons of raw sewage properly disposed of!

Our pumpouts are free of charge to recreational boaters. However, your support is greatly appreciated. To donate to our pumpout program, click here

From the Baykeeper

Governor Christie and his Administration continue to ignore calls for more transparency and improved safety protocols for the millions of gallons of crude oil and, soon to come, tar sands travelling over our state's railways and waterways.  A spill of this material in our waters would be disastrous and we are fighting with our partners to ask for improved rail cars and response protocols.

Time is winding down and we need your help!

Governor Christie only has a few more days to make a decision on a bill that will determine the health of our waterways.

Bill S2178 would ban the manufacturing, selling or promoting of personal care products containing microbeads beginning January 2018. If signed, New Jersey would become the second state to ban microbeads along with Illinois. Baykeeper is working on making sure loophole language is eliminated from the bill and that the ban would include ALL plastic microbeads.

Click here to urge Governor Christie to sign Bill S2178 and close all loopholes in order to ban all plastic microbeads for the sake of our waterways, ecosystems, and health. Learn more here
